Pa. boys and girls: Paine's hit lifts Hill School

Grady Paine's triple in the bottom of the sixth inning proved to be huge Saturday. His extra-base hit drove in the go-ahead run, and Hill School defeated visiting Lawrenceville, 4-2, in a nonleague baseball game.

Jack Hogan, who started on the mound for the Blues, kept Lawrenceville hitless through the first five innings and struck out eight.

In other nonleague action:

James McConnon knocked in two runs to help Haverford School defeat visiting Marple Newtown, 5-4. Kevin McGowan had three hits.

Bay To's three-hitter powered host Neumann-Goretti to a 5-1 victory over Episcopal Academy. Tommy Nardini and Vince Vaccone each had two hits and an RBI.

Jack Grim, Kyle Winters, Josh Van Meerbeke, and Dylan Campbell each had two hits to help Delco Christian defeat visiting Valley Forge Military Academy, 6-4. Grim had an RBI double in the sixth inning.

Central. John Lord's RBI triple in the third inning helped host Radnor cruise to a 4-0 win over Marple Newtown. Sophomore Charlie Connolly tossed a six-hit shutout for his first career varsity win. Connolly had four strikeouts and allowed six hits.

Softball

Anne Hays went 3 for 4 with two RBIs in Downingtown West's to 2-1 nonleague win over host Daniel Boone. Gianna Melillo and Ally Scullin each went 2 for 3.

Central Columbia Tournament. Tori McCoach went 3 for 4 with a home run to guide Conwell-Egan to a 3-2 win over Minersville.

Mount St. Dominic Tournament. Casey Boltersdorf's seven-strikeout, complete-game effort paced Pennsbury to a 5-1 win over Red Lion (Del.). Sydney Jakimowicz went 3 for 4 with three runs scored.

Dani Litwin went 2 for 4 with two RBIs as Pennsbury beat A.L. Johnson in its second game, 8-3. Boltersdorf also won this game, striking out four in five innings.

Boys' Tennis

Plumstead Christian's Kyle Seelig, the top seed, defeated No. 2 Adrian Roji of New Hope-Solebury, 6-1, 6-4, to claim the District 1 Class AA singles title at the Healthplex in Springfield, Delaware County.
