Pa. boys and girls: Radnor girls lacrosse rallies to clip Garnet Valley

But the host Red Raiders rallied from an early five-goal deficit Tuesday and stunned Garnet Valley, 10-9, in the Central League opener.

Garnet Valley, the reigning PIAA state champion, is ranked 21st in the country by Nike/U.S. Lacrosse.

Lexi Kenneally (game-high four goals) scored to give Radnor the lead for good, 8-7, with 14 minutes, 46 seconds remaining.

Reilly Masterson helped put the game away by causing turnovers and controlling draws.

Pioneer. Deb Peifer scored in overtime and Methacton won, 7-6, over Boyertown at Phoenixville. The loss snapped Boyertown's 152-game league winning streak.

Boys' Lacrosse

Coach John Nostrant won his 400th career victory as host Haverford School, ranked No. 1 in the country by Nike/U.S. Lacrosse, beat Loyola Blakefield (Md.), 14-9, in a nonleague game.

In other nonleague action, Curtis Zappala paired four goals with six assists to power Episcopal Academy to a 16-2 victory over visiting St. Joseph's Prep. The Churchmen are ranked 10th in Nike/U.S. Lacrosse's national poll.

Softball

Maggie Balint struck out 24 in an eight-inning one-hitter and host Avon Grove rallied past West Chester Henderson, 2-0, in the Ches-Mont National.

Basketball

Chris Clover (St. Joseph's Prep) and Alyssa Monaghan (Bonner-Prendergast) were named the Markward Club players of the year.

Both players are bound for St. Joseph's University.
