Kumor, Conwell-Egan down McDevitt, 69-41

Chase Kumor wants to be a nurse and the 6-foot-3 senior forward for Conwell-Egan doesn't care what anybody thinks. In fact, he may come across the occasional knuckle-dragging troglodyte who thinks he should pursue something more manly, but he remains undeterred.

"I'm fine with it," Kumor said Friday after the Eagles overwhelmed visiting Bishop McDevitt, 69-41. "It's just what I want to do. If I want to do it, I'm just gonna go do it. I'm confident in it."

"Yeah, I get some jokes cracked at me, but I just kind of laugh it off," he continued. "It's something that I love. When I want to do something and I love it, I'm gonna go do it. I don't care if they don't want to do it or they think it's weird. If I want to do it, I'll go do it."

It all started with a fractured elbow after Kumor took a tumble off the monkey bars when he was six years old. Five surgeries and numerous hospital visits later, Kumor was sold.

"Everybody just treated me really nicely and I just want to give back and be that person. I looked at al those people like, 'they are such nice people,' and I want to be that person."

His left elbow was just fine in last night's Catholic League matchup. Kumor scored 10 points, grabbed six rebounds, added two steals and a blocked shot.

Junior forward Vinny Dalessandro dominated down low for the Eagles (13-4 overall, 6-2 league), who have won five straight league games.

The 6-foot-7 junior scored a game-high 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting. He also grabbed seven rebounds.

For the Lancers (5-12, 0-8), senior guard Jayson Clark led with 19 points on 5-for-13 shooting.

"Defensively, we want to be known as that team you don't want to play and that's what we're trying to do," said Kumor, who transferred from Penn Charter last season.

"Last year, I transferred in and they really accepted me," he said. "I just try to be a leader and try to have everybody's back, and this year we have such a team bond."

As evidence, starters and major contributors were excited to see deep reserves check in for late playing time.

For Kumor, following in family footsteps means combining basketball and nursing.

His father John played at Archbishop Ryan and later became a nurse anesthetist, while Kumor's grandfather, Tom Gaberina, played guard at then-La Salle College.

Kumor will play at Salisbury as he pursues nursing.

"It's just what I want to do," he said. "If I want to do it, I'll do it. I'm confident in it."
