Thurs. Pa. football: Prep Charter tops Frankford

If they wanted an excuse to blow off the final game of the season, the Prep Charter football players wouldn't have had to look too far to find one.

If they wanted an excuse to blow off the final game of the season, the Prep Charter football players wouldn't have had to look too far to find one.

The Public League Class AA champions dropped a heartbreaker to neighborhood rival Neumann-Goretti in the city championship game Nov. 8. Even worse, their stalwart senior quarterback, Vian Dolo, broke his throwing hand.

But the coaching staff implored the Huskies to finish the season the right way. Prep Charter did that Thursday, winning at Frankford, 24-14, in the city's newest Thanksgiving rivalry.

Quadir Strothers rushed for two touchdowns, and John Davis caught a 48-yard scoring pass from Joe Holmes.

Frankford's Devontae Lee returned an interception for a score and caught a touchdown pass from Nain Franklin.

This was the first meeting on Thanksgiving between the Public League powers. Frankford has been searching for a consistent holiday opponent since its 82-year series with North Catholic ended in 2009, when that school closed its doors.

In other nonleague play:

Northeast 41, Central 0 - Rushawn Grange rushed for two touchdowns, and the host Vikings won for the 10th time in the last 11 seasons. Travon Williams rushed for a score, and Asa Manley threw a touchdown pass to Clayton Rush.

Northeast padded its lead in the city's longest-standing rivalry to 57-51-10.

Father Judge 42, Lincoln 7 - Zack Carroll made every pass count. The senior quarterback threw three passes, all for touchdowns, in the first half as the visiting Crusaders cruised.
