Wed. Pa. girls and boys: Masterman senior sets mark

Entering a Wednesday matchup against Girls High, Masterman's Kat Bezhani was one goal shy of tying the school record for career goals in girls' soccer.

By game's end, she stood alone as the Blue Dragons' leading scorer. In Masterman's 5-1 victory over visiting Girls High, she tied the record with her first goal early in the game and then, with 12 minutes left in the first half, she drilled the ball into the net from 20 yards. That broke the record set by Nicole Bracciale in 2009.

"You only get these players once in a lifetime as a coach," Masterman coach Tim Roache said.

Bezhani went on to score another goal, bringing her career total to 44.

In other Public League action, Megan Staps scored three goals in Franklin Towne Charter's 8-0 win at Rush.

Ches-Mont American. Alexa Bushey's goal in the first half was all West Chester Rustin, ranked sixth in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer, needed in its 1-0 win at Oxford.

Suburban One Continental. Five minutes into overtime, Ally King scored to give North Penn a 2-1 victory at Souderton.

Anna Pedidone had tied the game with a goal 19 minutes into the second half off an assist from Elizabeth Andrade.

Nonleague. Avon Grove's Rachel Fenstermacher scored two goals, including the winner in overtime from 25 yards, in a 4-3 victory over visiting Octorara.

Emily Kupsov scored two goals in Owen J. Roberts' 3-1 victory at Pope John Paul II. Sarah Mills had 12 saves for the Wildcats in the win.

Boys' Soccer

Seven scorers carried No. 1 Archbishop Wood in its 9-0 victory against visiting Archbishop Carroll in Catholic League play. The Vikings remained undefeated, as the win improved their record to 9-0.

Nonleague. Third-ranked Haverford School defeated visiting Hill School, 4-0, with Conor Bradley, Connor Gregory, Alec Haas, and Jerry Karalis scoring goals.

Pioneer Athletic. With two minutes remaining in overtime, Pottsgrove's Kevin Rodriguez converted a corner kick to give his team a 2-1 victory at Boyertown. David McCartney also scored for Pottsgrove.

Suburban One American. No. 4 Wissahickon outlasted Upper Dublin on the road, with Cole Kropnick and Alex Toppen each tallying one goal in a 2-1 triumph. John Carrozza registered 16 saves for Wissahickon.

Field Hockey

Bailey Quinn scored the game-winner, her second goal of the game, with 22 seconds remaining in Phoenixville's 2-1 victory against visiting Methacton in the Pioneer Athletic Conference.

In other nonleague action, Notre Dame salvaged a 3-3 tie with Hill School. Quinn Maguire took the ball 75 yards up the field to tie the game with just seconds left.

Suburban One American. Upper Dublin topped visiting Wissahickon, 2-1, on strong performances from Marlee Siegel, Maddie Templeton, and Jillian Kenny. Sarah Blatt and Courtney Vincent scored for Upper Dublin.

Boys' Cross-Country

In a first-place finish, Perkiomen Valley's Jeff Montgomery set a course record of 15 minutes, 32 seconds on the 3.05-mile course at Boyertown, and Perkiomen Valley beat Boyertown and Pope John Paul II in a Pioneer Athletic Conference meet. Boyertown's Dylan Eddinger finished second in 15:47.
