Fri. Pa. football: Roman surges past Malvern

Roman Catholic rallied for three unanswered touchdowns in the second half Friday night to upset Malvern Prep, 38-27, at Wildwood.

Roman Catholic rallied for three unanswered touchdowns in the second half Friday night to upset Malvern Prep, 38-27, at Wildwood.

Phil DiWilliams threw a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter, a 28-yarder to AJ Frazier and a 43-yard connection with Dimetri Kelly, to give the Cahillites the lead.

DiWilliams capped the scoring with a 1-yard run for Roman Catholic, The Inquirer's 18th-ranked team in Southeastern Pennsylvania. DiWilliams completed 15 of 25 passes for 279 yards.

Kelly finished with 131 yards on 30 carries, and Frazier had 107 yards on six grabs.

University of Pittsburgh recruit Alex Hornibrook threw for 271 yards and four touchdown passes for sixth-ranked Malvern Prep. Trevor Morris had six catches for 179 yards and two scores for the Friars.

NONLEAGUE

Norristown 27, Upper Merion 6: Norristown won for the first time since 2012 behind Corey Davenport, who struck for touchdown runs of 65 and 30 at Upper Merion.

Bonner-Prendergast 27, Upper Darby 14: Aaron McCastle and Collin DiGalbo ran for touchdowns, and the two connected, with DiGalbo finding McCastle for a crucial fourth-quarter score at Upper Darby.

Springfield (Delco) 21, Interboro 7: Brian Allen scored from 11 and 16 yards in the fourth quarter in the home win.

Conestoga 26, Owen J. Roberts 13: Parke Schweiter scored three times in the second half, and Conestoga pulled away with a road win.

Academy Park 19, Marple Newtown 14: Jawan Collins snagged the game-winning touchdown pass from Allon Ruffin in the fourth quarter for host Academy Park.

Unionville 8, Garnet Valley 6: Alex Pechin connected on a 50-yard field goal and hit a go-ahead, 20-yard kick in the fourth quarter, and Unionville held on for the home win over No. 9 Garnet Valley.

Chichester 18, Lower Merion 7: Chichester's Greg Allman returned a punt 50 yards for a score en route to the home win.

Central Bucks East 21, Cheltenham 7: Quarterback Connor O'Keefe tossed the ball to Eric Poppke, who pulled up and threw a 42-yard touchdown to AJ Ventresca on the flea-flicker for visiting East.

Central Bucks South 41, Central Bucks West 14: Trey Robertson caught three touchdown passes from Kevin Witchey and Josh Adams broke touchdown runs of 81 and 53 for visiting South. Adams, a Notre Dame recruit, finished with 232 yards on 15 carries.

Ridley 13, Glen Mills 7: Brock Anderson returned a punt 75 yards, and Ridley won at Glen Mills.

Springfield (Montco) 35, Lower Moreland 0: Chris Stone threw an 18-yard TD pass on Springfield's first possession, and the visiting Spartans never looked back.

West Chester Rustin 41, Methacton 18: Terry Loper had 30 carries for 225 yards and four touchdowns in a home win for 13th-ranked West Chester Rustin.

West Chester East 48, Penn Wood 0: Jon Jon Roberts threw three touchdown passes in the home win.

Upper Moreland 30, Penncrest 12: Tyler Whitmore scored four touchdowns of at least 34 yards for host Upper Moreland.

Edison 12, Mastbaum 6: Jahiel Hall threw a 45-yard touchdown to Shamid Aquil-Banes in the third quarter and broke a 25-yard, game-winning TD run in the fourth for host Edison.

Wissahickon 47, Central 6: Josh Smith had 103 yards on seven carries to lead Wissahickon to the road win. Colin Williams contributed nine tackles, a sack, and two fumble recoveries.

Springside Chestnut Hill 25, Washington 15: Paul Dooley threw for 198 yards and ran for 77 and two scores in a win at Northeast.

Bartram 22, Overbrook 20: Makai Sheed ran in a game-tying touchdown with 10.1 seconds left, then went up the middle for the go-ahead, two-point conversion in Bartram's win at Simon Gratz.

Southern 14, Lincoln 12 (OT): Casey Williams scored the touchdown and the two-point conversion that proved to be the difference. He finished with 91 yards on 14 carries for visiting Southern.

Penn Charter 54, Fels 26: Samir Coe had a rushing touchdown and returned a fumble 41 yards for another score in the win at Northeast.

Quakertown 38, Upper Perkiomen 0: Quakertown's Rob Burns ran in the first two scores of the win at Souderton.

Strath Haven 40, Dobbins 6: Alex Bratsis found three ways to the end zone - run, catch, and kick return - in a win at Southern.

Roxborough 43, Strawberry Mansion 6: Edinton Wright and Eduardo Sanchez each ran for a pair of scores in Roxborough's home win.

Ben Franklin 41, Pottsgrove 7: Rafael Rodriguez had three touchdown catches and ran for a fourth score in a road win.

Boys' Latin 40, Palumbo 0: Damere Gilbert scored the game's first three touchdowns and ran for 110 yards in the win at Southern.

Del-Val Charter 50, Kensington 6: Dwine Walls caught two touchdown passes and ran for a third score in Del-Val Charter's blowout at Johnston Stadium in Mount Airy.

BICENTENNIAL LEAGUE

Calvary Christian 20, Jenkintown 14: Calvary Christian scored on its first and last plays. Michael Hollinger started the scoring with a 77-yard run, and Joshua Reichenbach tossed a 36-yard, winning touchdown to Samuel Heath.
