Pa. Girls: Tues. Pa. girls: North Penn upsets Spring-Ford

Ninth seed North Penn continued its improbable run with a 3-1 win over No. 4 Spring-Ford on Tuesday afternoon in a District 1 Class AAAA softball semifinal at Hatboro-Horsham.

All the scoring came in the sixth inning, led by Meghan Curley, who went 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Jackie Bilotti threw a five-hitter and struck out three for the victory. Becky Christoffers went 1 for 3 and doubled in a run.

The Rams' lone run came on a solo homer by Jaycie Loomis.

The Maidens have been the lower-seeded team in each of their playoff games, having faced No. 8 Council Rock South and top-seeded William Tennent in the first two rounds.

That trend will continue, as North Penn prepares to face second-seeded Avon Grove on Thursday in the final.

District 1 Class AAA Semifinals

Isabel Schaefer pitched six no-hit innings, fanning six, to power third-seeded Radnor over No. 2 Chichester, 7-0, at West Chester East.

Bari Margolis went 2 for 4 with two doubles, and Schaefer helped her own cause by going 1 for 2 with a run scored.

The other semifinal played at Harriton between Springfield (Delco) and Upper Merion was suspended because of weather and will resume at 4 p.m. Wednesday. The Cougars were leading, 7-3, after 31/2 innings.

District 1 Class AA Semifinals

St. Basil's Nicole Eberhard pitched her way out of a no-out, bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning to help the second-seeded Panthers past No. 3 Springfield (Montco), 4-1, at Upper Dublin.

Eberhard responded in the bottom half of the fourth with an RBI single as St. Basil scored three runs in the inning. The junior scattered five hits and struck out eight.

Christopher Dock 11, Lower Moreland 0 - Lauren Weidler clubbed a home run and struck out seven to pace the top-seeded Pioneers over the No. 4 Lions. Cassidy Jagiela went 3 for 4 and drove in three runs on a double in the fourth inning.

District 1 Class A Semifinals

Sesley Cruz ripped an RBI double in the top of the seventh inning to lift third-seeded Friends Select over No. 2 Calvary Christian, 7-6, at Bristol.

The hit by the sophomore centerfielder scored Gabby Hebden-Pearl for the winning run.

Bristol 10, Morrisville 0 - The top-seeded Warriors eased past the No. 4 seed at Pennsbury behind a seven-run third inning.

Mary Wallick earned the win, striking out eight over the five innings.

Bristol will face Friends Select on Thursday for the championship. The two faced off last year in the final, won by Bristol, 4-0.
