Tues. Pa. boys and girls: Harriton breaks through

Skylar Katz's seventh-inning single Tuesday did more than just cap a comeback and give Harriton a 4-3 victory at Interboro. It delivered the Rams their first win in the District 1 Class AAA baseball tournament in school history.

Drake Friend led off the seventh with a triple. He scored on Andre Pendleton's fourth hit of the quarterfinal game.

Corey Neel went four innings, allowing four hits and striking out five, to improve to 7-1 for the sixth-seeded Rams.

Interboro was the third seed.

In other Class AAA quarterfinals:

Holy Ghost Prep 5, Bishop Shanahan 2 - Ryan Malloy hit a solo home run in the third and had a sacrifice fly in the sixth to lift the top-seeded Firebirds at home.

Tim Brennan, Ryan Malloy, and Colin Smeraglio each had two hits. Gavin Roselli homered for No. 8 Bishop Shanahan.

Lower Moreland 6, Chichester 5 - Dominic Cataline's big day at the plate powered the seventh-seeded Lions to an upset at No. 2 Chichester.

Cataline, a junior shortstop, went 3 for 4 with two doubles and a triple. His two-run triple in the fourth scored Lance Goodman and Pete Ebert with the tying and go-ahead runs.

Nick Cerruti allowed two earned runs in a five-hitter. He struck out six.

District 1 Class A Baseball Quarterfinals

Jenkintown 9, Delco Christian 2 - John Contoudis went 2 for 2 and drove in three runs as the host fourth seed cruised past No. 5 Delco Christian. Greg Wagner allowed four hits and no earned runs in two innings to get the win. He struck out six.

Calvary Christian 8, Christopher Dock 5 - Joey Roche went 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored, and the sixth seed won at the No. 3 seed. Sam Heath went 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored.

Independent Schools Baseball Quarterfinal

Friends' Central 2, Episcopal Academy 1, 8 innings - Luke Schlessinger's single down the left-field line lifted the sixth seed over the visiting 11th seed. Jonas Snyder's sacrifice fly in the sixth had tied it. Bryan Rubin fired a two-hitter and struck out six.

Independent Schools Softball Quarterfinals

Agnes Irwin 4, Friends' Central 3 - Katie Wenger hit a two-run triple in the third inning, and the No. 2 seed held off the visiting seventh seed. Wenger struck out 10 in seven innings to earn the win.

Penn Charter 7, Germantown Friends 1 - Eileen Hennessy's two-run homer in the sixth was the big blow for the third-seeded Quakers in a win over the visiting sixth seed. She went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
