Recruiting: CRN's McIlwain raking in offers

If Brandon McIlwain has his way, he's going to have a busy few months ahead of him.

The Council Rock North quarterback is one of the area's hottest recruits. He has received scholarship offers from major programs across the country. And he said he wants to visit each of those colleges before the end of the summer.

"I'm going to try to," he said.

Each day makes that task harder, as McIlwain seems to gain suitors daily. Nebraska added an offer Thursday. Two days earlier, it was California. The week before, Michigan State, Miami, and Virginia came calling.

The sophomore has offers from more than a dozen programs, and each is recruiting him as a quarterback.

"It feels amazing," he said. "I never knew it would happen this quickly. It's been a lot of fun."

The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder plans to graduate a semester early and enroll in college. He's looking for a school that has strong academics, a good coaching staff, and a team that will give him the chance to compete immediately for playing time.

He plans to make his decision after this season. McIlwain said he is thinking about studying pre-med and wants to pursue a career in sports medicine.

McIlwain threw for 1,609 yards and 13 touchdowns last season. He also showed the ability to beat defenses with his legs.

"I can throw from the pocket, and then whenever something breaks down, I can move with my feet," he said. "It's a good trait that I'm going to keep working on, because it's a threat."

South Bend-bound. Frankford junior defensive end Shareef Miller will visit Notre Dame this weekend, and he will bring some friends. The 6-5, 230-pounder will be joined by St. Joseph's Prep cornerback John Reid and former Washington running back Hakeem Sillman.

Miller does not have a scholarship offer from Notre Dame, but he does have offers from Temple, Penn State, Rutgers, West Virginia, and Virginia. He plans to visit Arizona State next month and Oregon in May. Both those schools recently made offers to Miller.

Reid, rated a four-star prospect by Rivals, already has an offer from Notre Dame and recently added one from Alabama. Also among his suitors are Arizona, Boston College, Temple, Penn State, Rutgers, Michigan State, and Michigan.

Sillman was one of the city's top rushers and graduated from Washington in 2012. But he hasn't played in the last two seasons. He enrolled at Valley Forge Military in January and said he will stay at the junior college until the winter of 2015.

The 5-foot-8 rusher recently made unofficial visits to Temple and Rutgers.

Interest in Taylor. Martin Luther King's Jahmir Taylor, who won the Phoenix Award on Thursday as the top boys' basketball player in the Public League, is beginning to zero in on his college decision. The 6-8 forward said he has received interest from Temple, Massachusetts, South Florida, Hampton, and Fairfield.

Taylor helped lead King to the league title by averaging 13 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocked shots.
