Coatesville's Mike Boykin has committed to wrestle at North Carolina State, the senior said Tuesday.

The recently crowned PIAA Class AAA champion at 220 pounds said that he had considered Rider and a few other schools as well, but that his future teammates and the friendly atmosphere around the school greatly influenced his decision.

"I bonded with the guys well down there, and I liked the atmosphere," Boykin said. "The weather is nice, and it just feels like me down there. I really liked it."

Boykin will leave Coatesville with 142 career wins and two state-tournament medals.

Baseball

When Sean Menold saw the forecast for this week, he wasn't happy.

He took to Twitter and wrote that he could not bear any snow this week because baseball season had begun.

Menold might be feeling differently now. Pitching through flurries, he threw a four-inning no-hitter in Interboro's 15-0 win over visiting Academy Park in a Del-Val League game.

It was the first career no-hitter for the junior. Menold struck out eight and walked two. Jay Schwartz went 2 for 3 with four RBIs.

Nonleague. Council Rock North rapped out 12 hits in an 8-0 defeat of visiting Hatboro-Horsham. Aiden Tulley went 2 for 2 and scored twice. Tyler Callendar and J.R. Hicks each had three hits.

Matt Nardo had two hits, including a double, and stole a base as Plymouth Whitemarsh won at Abington, 11-4. Connor Purdy tripled and stole a base.

Lacrosse

Austin Betterly and Pat McGrath each scored five goals as Plymouth Whitemarsh held off visiting Upper Moreland, 13-10, in a Suburban One American game.

Central League. Christian Portale netted four goals, and Dylan Lee added three to pace host Garnet Valley past Strath Haven, 10-7.

Football

Chris Gicking has been named head coach at Marple Newtown. He spent the last 13 seasons as an assistant at Conestoga.

Gicking, of Broomall, starred at quarterback for the Tigers from 1993 to 1995, throwing for 5,897 yards and 53 touchdowns in his career.

He went on to play at Shippensburg.

At Marple Newtown, Gicking replaces Ray Gionta, who stepped down after 11 seasons to take the top job at Sun Valley.

Basketball

Neumann-Goretti's Ja'Quan Newton and Phelps' Terry Larrier have been selected to play in the Jordan Brand Classic regional game April 18 at the Barclays Center in New York.

The regional game, with a 4:30 p.m. start, is a "City vs. Suburbs" showdown that will feature the top prep players from the area.

Newton, who has signed with Miami, averaged 21.6 points in leading the Saints to their sixth straight Catholic League championship and fourth PIAA Class AAA state title in five seasons.

Larrier, bound for Virginia Commonwealth, averaged 21 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals.

He drilled 20 three-pointers.
