With his second touch of the game, senior Chris Morgan carried the ball 71 yards for a touchdown. Roughly 45 minutes of football later, his last touch came on an interception.

Both big-time plays helped the Haverford School football team beat Germantown Academy, 20-14, Saturday afternoon in an Inter-Ac League game.

"I have to come up clutch," Morgan said. "I am a senior captain. It is Inter-Ac time. In league play, you have to make big plays."

Morgan wasn't the only member of the Fords to make big plays, as junior Chris Sukonik returned an interception 74 yards for a touchdown, giving Haverford the lead for the first time since early in the second quarter and changing momentum.

"I saw the quarterback running out, and I just jumped it," Sukonik said.

"That was scary," he added of the return. "I felt people on my back and tried to keep them off as best I could."

And then there was senior Matt Galambos. The University of Pittsburgh recruit, with the help of his offensive line, ran the ball the last 14 offensive plays for the Fords.

His physical style of running couldn't be stopped by the Patriots, taking large chunks of time off the clock. Galambos finished the game with 144 yards rushing on 30 carries.

"That is the best I think that that group has played this year," Haverford coach Mike Murphy said of the offensive line's performance late in the game. "When you have a kid like Matt . . . you have to give him the ball."

"He is pretty special."

Morgan's rushing touchdown seemed to put Haverford School in control, but the Patriots scored 14 straight points in the second quarter to take the lead into intermission.

The win gives the Fords a 2-0 record in the Inter-Ac and a 5-3 mark overall. After losing their first two games, the Fords have gone 5-1 the past six weeks.

GA fell to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in league play, having lost three of its last four.
