Fri. Pa. girls' roundup: Seniors rule as Sun Valley rolls

Alie Alkins had three hits and drove in a run, Karly Lewis singled in a run, and Kait Dwyer added a hit and two RBIs as the seniors supported Jamie Lachall's three-hit pitching.

Katie Maloney, the game's second batter, hit a two-run homer to open the scoring.

Also in the Ches-Mont, Downingtown West dropped visiting rival Downingtown East, 11-3, as Michelle Nardo homered and winning pitcher Sydney Robey was one of four Whippets with doubles.

West Chester Rustin scored in six innings of a 14-2 win at Octorara, inspired by Anna Steinmetz's first-inning home run and two RBIs each from Megan Lorenz, Melissa White, and Steinmetz.

Heidi McCollester lined a single, double, and triple with two RBIs as West Chester Henderson beat visiting Coatesville, 7-1.

Kate Poppe guided Bishop Shanahan past host West Chester East, 3-0, by striking out 12 and allowing one hit. Claudia Boggi (two RBIs) and Marissa Giordano had two hits apiece.

Inter-Ac. Bernadette Tankle doubled in two runs and scored another in support of Alex Viscusi's pitching as Episcopal Academy dealt visiting Penn Charter a 6-3 setback.

Gabbie Ciccone's two-out, two-run single in the sixth inning was the winning hit for Baldwin in a 4-3 victory over visiting Agnes Irwin.

Pioneer Athletic. Sam McGoldrick belted a game-ending, two-run homer in the sixth inning as Methacton blanked visiting Phoenixville, 10-0. Maddy Lowery pitched a one-hit shutout with five strikeouts, and Amanda Kulp went 3 for 4.

Katie DeStefano collected two singles and a double, scored twice, and drove in four runs while steering Kennett past visiting Oxford, 8-5. Kennett avenged an earlier 9-6 loss to the Hornets.

Harley Pascavage slapped four hits, including a triple, and knocked in two runs for Perkiomen Valley in a 10-2 win at Pope John Paul II. Kristin Zeigler added three hits and three RBIs.

Nonleague. Sam Carlino had two doubles and a home run, and Molly Basilio added four hits, three RBIs and three runs scored to Unionville's 16-0 shutout of visiting Villa Maria.

Two hits each by pitcher Courtney Scarpato (two runs), Taylor Winkelman, and Alexa Naughton fueled a 5-3 win by Springfield (Delco) at Interboro. The Bucs' Lauren Munro had two hits and drove in two runs.

Isabel Nardi pitched a complete game and aided the Friends' Central offense with a three-run homer in a 12-6 win over visiting Notre Dame. Saoirse Hahn added two hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored.

Friends Select boosted its season record to 16-3 via a 7-2 win at Franklin Towne Charter in which Cate McQueen struck out six and scattered four hits.

Lacrosse

Brooke Kiley was one of four Germantown Academy players to score three goals, and she added three assists in the Patriots' 17-7 Inter-Ac League win at Springside. Allie Cannon, Hadley Hall, and Jennifer Stack also scored three goals for the winners.

Nonleague. Jenkintown goalie Connor Cheek turned aside seven Nazareth Academy shots, and Tori Contoudis and Haley Smith scored four goals apiece as the host Drakes prevailed, 19-5.

Mount St. Joseph got goals from nine players, including Natalie Bohner with four, and handed visiting West Chester Rustin a 17-7 defeat.

Shipley overpowered host Hill School, 21-9, behind Sophie Katz's five goals and seven assists and Sophie Cummins' three goals and two assists.

Soccer

Katerina Bezhani picked up a loose ball in the box and scored with 10 seconds left in the second half, giving Masterman a dramatic, 1-0 Public League win at Girls High. Goalie Katie Breiner made eight saves.
