Tues. Pa. girls' roundup: Pennsbury prevails in pitching duel

Christina Bascara's single down the right-field line ended the offensive drought and handed Pennsbury a 1-0, nine-inning win over Neshaminy in a pitching-dominated Suburban One League softball game Tuesday.

Pennsbury's Val Buehler posted the win with nine shutout innings, a pair of hits allowed, 10 strikeouts, and two walks. Lauren Quense's stat line mirrored Buehler as she went the distance, walked two, yielded two hits, and fanned 10, but she allowed the late run.

Mackenzie Obert singled to lead off the ninth and scored on Bascara's hit.

Friends Schools. Grace Finkbiner scored the tying run in the seventh inning and drove home the winning run in the eighth as host Friends Select topped Abington Friends, 7-6.

Finkbiner singled home Alex White in the eighth for the win. In the seventh, she knocked home Liz Hawkes before she scored the tying run on a single by Kate Feske-Kirby.

Bicentennial. Maddie Clemens went 2 for 4 and Megan Bolton drove in three runs as Christopher Dock topped Morrisville, 10-5. Katherine Brown hit a grand slam in the seventh for Morrisville.

Catholic. Junior righthander Trish Conolly recorded her first no-hitter, and Archbishop Carroll blanked visiting Hallahan, 10-0. She struck out four in the five-inning game.

Senior Shannon DeFusco went 2 for 3 and homered for her ninth extra-base hit in the last five games.

Public. Shaina Estes drove in five runs, including a three-run homer in the fourth, as Swenson cruised at Parkway West, 15-4.

Inter-Ac. Junior shortstop Lauren Fortunato went 4 for 4 and scored three times to help Agnes Irwin roll at Springside, 11-4. Taylor Lord went 4 for 5 and drove in four runs, including a solo homer in the sixth.

Del-Val. Olivia Incarnacion and Miranda Baylor hit back-to-back homers in the third to trigger Interboro's easy 11-1 win over visiting Penn Wood. Incarnacion also posted the win with four strikeouts.

 

Track and Field

St. Hubert captured first place in nine events, including two by Teresa Ortiz, as the Bambies finished first in the Catholic League North Division championships at La Salle.

Ortiz won the mile in 5 minutes, 42.8 seconds and the 800 meters in 2:22.5. Hubert also won the 4x100 relay, 4x400 relay, and 4x800 relay.

Brianne Wojciechowski of Archbishop Ryan won the shot put (29 feet, 3 inches) and the discus (82-51/2).

Inter-Ac. Catie Skinner dominated the distance events as visiting Episcopal Academy eased past Penn Charter, 83-44.

Skinner won the 800 meters in 2:29.7 and the 1,600 in 5:22.9. Alana Dumas won the 100 (12.9) and the 200 (26.9) for Episcopal.

 

Lacrosse

Senior Annie Morrissey scored five of Germantown Friends' first six goals en route to an easy 14-5 win over visiting Westtown in a Friends Schools League match.

Inter-Ac. Libbie Maine scored with 1 minute, 54 seconds left and Springside edged host Agnes Irwin, 16-15. Maine finished with three goals.
