Fri. Pa. boys' roundup: Springfield edges Chestnut Hill

Bornholdt finished the game 3 for 4 at the plate with a run scored. Anthony Scafidi added a pair of hits and an RBI, and Doug Bauer pitched the final three innings for the win.

In other nonleague action, Mike Piscopo allowed an inherited runner to score before he clamped down and saved La Salle's 5-4 win over visiting St. Augustine (N.J.). He pitched the seventh inning and retired three straight to close the game. Chris Melillo had two hits and scored twice for the Explorers.

Vince Piccioni posted a shutout and fanned 12 as Haverford School blanked visiting Upper Darby, 4-0. Matt Galetta provided key offense with two hits, including a two-run homer in the fifth.

Pitcher C. J. Costalas stranded the tying run on third base and Malvern Prep edged Cardinal Spellman (Mass.), 7-6, in Fort Pierce, Fla. Drew Hayes knocked in two runs, and Gardner Nutter struck out seven and walked one in six innings.

Catholic. Shane Williams stroked a two-run triple with two outs in the sixth inning, and St. Joseph's Prep rallied to top host Conwell-Egan, 2-1. Mike Borsuk posted the win with five strikeouts in five innings. Beau Fleming fanned seven and walked two for Conwell-Egan.

Del-Val. Justin Easter's three-run homer in the top of the seventh sealed Glen Mills' 5-2 win at Academy Park. Easter pitched seven innings and fanned four, and Academy Park's Steve Leidy had nine strikeouts.

Suburban One. Brett Berstein went 3 for 3 and scored four times to help Cheltenham down visiting Plymouth Whitemarsh, 9-6. Kevin Graham scored twice and went 2 for 2.

Ches-Mont. Sophomore centerfielder Kevin Miller hit a three-run double in the fourth inning to lift West Chester Henderson over visiting Coatesville, 5-0.

Junior lefthander Chas McCormick picked up the win as he struck out three and walked one in seven innings.

Friends Schools. Dennis Whitely went 2 for 2 and drove home two runs as Friends' Central rolled at Moorestown Friends, 8-1. Charles Bears complied a complete game and struck out two for the win.

Public. Raekwon Smith slammed a walk-off homer with two outs in the seventh inning to lift Science Leadership over visiting University City, 10-8. Ethan Reese finished 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs.

Nate Vahedi struck out 12 and Harry Taggart drove home three runs as Masterman eased past Washington, 11-4. Senior third baseman Augie Legido added a pair of RBIs.

Lacrosse

Ryan McDonald scored four times to help Pennsbury edge host Abington, 11-9, in a Suburban One League game. Andrew Probst added three goals and two assists. Abington's Ryan Ambler recovered four ground balls and assisted on three goals.

Drew Potts' five goals led Upper Dublin to a 16-9 win at Upper Moreland. Potts added two assists, and Mike Rama recorded a hat trick.

Catholic. Timmy Taylor's three goals and one assist led Archbishop Ryan past host Conwell-Egan, 12-3.

Archbishop Wood's Brendan Furlong scored four times and Steve Buonomo recovered four ground balls in a 9-2 victory at Cardinal O'Hara. Colin Durnin turned away 14 shots for the win.
