Wed. Pa. girls' roundup: Avon Grove recovers, tops Henderson

Avon Grove watched a late four-run lead disappear in Wednesday's Ches-Mont League softball game at West Chester Henderson, but rallied for four runs in the 10th inning and held on for a 10-9 win.

The Red Devils took a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh before Henderson scored four runs, highlighted by an RBI triple from Lauren Butts, who scored the tying run on a fielder's choice.

Avon Grove then pushed across its four runs in the 10th inning, including one by Allison DeShullo on a bases-loaded walk for the deciding run. Alyssa Herion homered for the Red Devils, and Henderson's Heidi McCollester went 4 for 6 with a double.

Also in the Ches-Mont, Sun Valley pitcher Jamie Lachall outdueled Kennett's Brooke Harner as the visiting Vanguards grabbed a 1-0 win. Alie Alkins singled home Ashley Gialle for the run in the third inning. It was one of two hits allowed by Harner (eight strikeouts). Lachall also fanned eight in a three-hitter.

Winning pitcher Sydney Robey tossed a two-hitter and also had two hits and two RBIs to keep Downingtown West (7-0) unbeaten with a 5-2 win at West Chester East.

Unionville's Sam Carlino had three singles and five RBIs, and pitcher Amy Large helped herself with three RBIs and three runs scored as the host Indians beat Octorara, 14-4.

Cassie Blyler and Sara Ercolani combined for five runs batted in while steering Downingtown East to a 12-1 victory over visiting Coatesville.

Central. Morgan Noad launched a pair of long home runs to center field, accounting for three RBIs as Conestoga topped visiting Garnet Valley, 7-5. Noad hit a two-run homer in the first inning after the Pioneers had allowed four runs in the top of the inning, and added a bases-empty shot in the fifth.

Pioneer Athletic. Harley Pascavage drove in the only run Perkiomen Valley needed to claim a 1-0 win at Phoenixville. Erin Hamm struck out 11 and walked one in a three-hit shutout.

Maddie Lowery fashioned a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts in Methacton's 5-2 win over visiting Upper Perkiomen. Katie Civitello singled twice and scored two runs.

Spring-Ford piled up 16 hits in a 14-1 win over visiting Pope John Paul II, including four from Marisha Bates (three RBIs).

Public. After giving up five runs and the lead in the top of the seventh, Bodine rallied for a run in the bottom of the inning to defeat visiting Science Leadership, 19-18. Crystal Lopez went 4 for 6 and scored the deciding run on an error when she stole third base.

Cynthia Sao, who got the pitching win, helped herself by going 4 for 4 with five RBIs and four runs scored in Southern's 23-8 win over visiting Parkway West.

Yesania Pinenal, called up from the Edison junior varsity, hit home runs in the third and fourth innings, inspiring a 14-2 win over visiting Germantown.

Frankford handed visiting Franklin Learning Center a 15-5 setback as Chelsea Taylor gave the Pioneers four hits, four stolen bases and three RBIs.

Ben Franklin's Angelica Then singled three times, doubled, drove in five runs and stole six bases to help defeat host Randolph, 20-9.

Jaileen Bernard collected six RBIs with a single, triple and home run, punctuating Kensington's 11-3 win at Olney.

Nonleague. Three hits and two runs each by Monica Clark and Maggie Fortescue ignited Archbishop Carroll's 13-hit offense in a 12-3 win over visiting Springside.

Penn Charter needed Carly Zurcher's run-scoring single with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to escape with a 4-3 win over visiting Friends' Central.

Christopher Dock pitcher Keli Krause allowed two hits and struck out nine en route to a 4-1 triumph at Pennridge. Holly Seiz went 3 for 4 with two RBIs.

Three hits hits each off the bats of Elisa Novack (five runs), Olivia Gorman (five RBIs) and Brianna Cullen sent Germantown Academy past host Lawrenceville, 20-10.

Little Flower's Rachel Wisniewski highlighted a 14-3 win at Abington Friends by going 4 for 4 with four RBIs.

Lacrosse

It took Friends' Central sophomore Emma Dahle just 25 games to reach 100 career goals. She hit the milestone with her second score in a six-goal effort during the Phoenix's 14-8 nonleague win at Springside.

Dahl, a midfielder who also assisted on seven goals, had 54 goals as a freshman and has 50 already this spring in seven games.

Host Germantown Academy edged Villa Maria, 15-14, in the Patriots' third straight one-goal game. Lizzie Tillger scored the winning goal with 1 minute, 33 seconds left.

Suburban One. Central Bucks West's Tara Shugars and Wissahickon's Lauren Frankenfield (three assists) had four goals each, but visiting West prevailed, 12-11.
