Fri. Pa. boys' and girls' roundup: More hardware for Prep Charter

The Huskies (25-3) edged Neumann-Goretti, 64-60, in the title game at Southern and will take the top seed from District 12 into next week's PIAA state tournament.

Prep Charter built a 17-point lead in the third quarter behind Kahleah Copper's 22-point, 12-rebound performance. Ciera Nimmons added 13 points with three three-point baskets.

Neumann-Goretti (19-6) closed the gap late, capitalizing on Omowumi Rafiu's 16 points and Prep Charter's missed foul shots.

District 1 Class AAAA. Upper Dublin ended host Central Bucks East's season by winning the Class AAAA ninth-place game, 36-33.

The Cardinals, who secured District 1's final berth in next week's state tournament, rallied with a 12-2 fourth quarter in which Taylor Bryant (15) scored five points.

East's Lindsey Kelly matched Bryant for game scoring honors with 15 points.

Boys' Basketball

Norristown scored more points in the fourth quarter than in the previous three periods combined and rallied from a 7-point deficit to beat visiting Souderton, 42-36, in the District 1 Class AAAA fifth-place game.

Marquis Bryant scored 11 of his 14 points in the final period on four baskets and and three foul shots, and Bernard Gordon made all of his four free throws down the stretch.

Coatesville will be District 1's No. 7 seed in the state playoffs following a 50-44 triumph over visiting Central Bucks West.

With the Red Raiders leading by 46-44, Vinny Williams came up a pair of key steals to lead to the final points. Chris Miller's 17 points fueled Coatesville, and West's Tyler Schechter netted a game-high 20.

In the ninth-place game at Wissahickon, Council Rock North claimed the district's final state berth with a 54-47 win over Cheltenham.

Arron Goodman scored 15 points, and Aaron Morgan had half of his 12 points in the fourth quarter. Rip Engel added five foul shots late in the game to keep the Indians in front.

Falcon Challenge. International Christian's Antoine Laster scored a career-high 49 points and added 10 steals and 6 assists as the Titans advanced to the tournament semifinals with a 78-60 win over King's Christian.

Wrestling

Three of the top four seeds in the 195-pound weight class suffered upset losses in the quarterfinal round of the PIAA Class AAA Southeast Regional tournament at Oxford.

Top-seeded P.J. Steinmetz of Council Rock South got to Saturday's semifinals safely at 195, but North Penn's George Shipp (19-8) pinned second-seeded Jordan Wertz of Boyertown (23-12), Upper Dublin's Devon Dhoble (34-2) pinned Central's third-seeded Kobina Amissah, and fourth-seeded Adam Pleines of Downingtown East (27-11) lost a 9-0 major decision to Norristown's Larry Gordon (38-9).
