Germantown Academy senior Chris Yankowich has made an oral commitment to wrestle for the University of Virginia.

Yankowich chose Virginia over Bucknell, Duke, and Columbia. His second official visit to Virginia a couple of weeks ago cemented his decision.

"Going for something bigger and better at Virginia," GA wrestling coach Steve Hill said.

Yankowich, who went 34-10 in the 135-pound division as a junior, claimed the division's title at the National Preps tournament as the No. 5 seed, winning quarterfinal, semifinal, and championship bouts with third-period or overtime takedowns. He led the Patriots to a fourth-place team showing at the event and was the lone Philadelphia-area wrestler to claim gold in the tournament.

Last year, Yankowich went 5-0 in Inter-Ac matches, when GA won the league title. Yankowich enters his senior season with a career record of 94-37.
