Thurs. Pa. boys' roundup: Washington defeats Central

Central (7-7-1) jumped ahead of the unbeaten Eagles (12-0-1) with a pair of first-half scores before Conde knotted the game with 10 minutes to go in regulation.

Duke Gbolue assisted Conde's 21st goal of the season 15 minutes into overtime, putting Washington in the title matchup on Tuesday. Washington goalie Danny Paraskevov made five saves, including a key stop in OT.

Northeast won the nightcap, 4-1, over Fels with goals from Sam Chan, Kevin Kureta, Richard Laurent and Shavar Shepherd.

District 1 Class AAA. Council Rock South, seeded 14th, upset host Lower Merion, 2-1, in overtime on Chase Coleman's goal off a scramble 6 minutes into the extra period. The third-seeded Aces led by 1-0 at halftime on Tyler Niles' goal before Michael Discavage tied the game.

Council Rock North also posted a 2-1 overtime win, ousting visiting Central Bucks West. Dalton Andrusko scored 3 minutes into OT on an 18-yard shot inside the post off an assist by Alec Neumann.

Central Bucks East's Sean Jenkins converted a penalty kick in the 10th minute for the only goal Central Bucks East needed to edge visiting Springfield (Delco), 1-0.

Mike Serban headed in a lofted pass from Stephen Pieri with 9 minutes remaining as Central Bucks South won, 2-1, at West Chester Rustin.

Souderton goalie Tyler Afflebach earned a shutout and Tyler McDougall scored early in the second half to pin a 1-0 loss on visiting Kennett.

Strath Haven's 1-0 win at fourth-seeded Unionville featured Thomas Shiiba's goal from Preston Dennis 5 minutes into the second half and five saves by goalie David Ruffini for the 13th-seeded Panthers.

North Penn trimmed visiting Downingtown West, 1-0, on Dylan Eiger's shutout goaltending and Matt Robinson's first-half goal.

Penn-Jersey. Solebury School claimed the league playoff championship with a 2-0 victory at Life Center, avenging a 1-0 loss suffered against the Warriors on Sept. 13. Nathan Frenze scored the winning goal in the 17th minute, Wyatt Bonner added an insurance score before halftime, and goalie Anthony Pan needed three saves for the shutout.

Tri-County. Woodlynde won a playoff preliminary game, 7-2, against visiting Wyncote with two goals each by Peter Mayer and Tristan Bosna.

Football

Ben Franklin got a touchdown on a kickoff return and another on a punt return that required no run back during a 39-14 nonleague win over visiting Southern (1-7).

Southern punted from its own end zone in the first quarter and when the punt went straight up in the air, Demetrius Town caught it for a Franklin (4-4) touchdown. Raphael Rodriguez had a 66-yard kickoff return for a score, and Chris Sullivan, Crusito Cruz, and Anwar Mathis ran for TDs.

M.L. King 20, H.S. of Future 14 - Visiting King (2-6) rallied from a 14-0 halftime deficit to win on Khaleel Stewart's 22-yard TD pass to Andre Shirley with 5:19 left.

Malik Paulk ignited the comeback against Future (1-7) by returning a punt for a touchdown and tying the game on a 7-yard run as part of a 59-yard rushing effort. Future's Ronald Wade completed 7 of 16 passes for 94 yards and a TD.
