Tues. Pa. girls’ roundup: State title for C.R. North’s Herr

Herr, the District 1 champ, birdied the 2d and 13th holes in a round of 4-over par 76 on the second day of the 36-hole event and posted a winning score of 6-over 150 for two days.

Pennsbury freshman Jackie Rogowicz finished second at 155 with a second-day 76, and Mount St. Joseph freshman Isabella Dilisio was a shot behind in third place with an 81 in the final round.

Radnor, led by Jamie Susanin's 174 total, placed second in the team scoring behind Shady Side Academy.

Tennis

Lower Moreland handed District 11 champ Moravian (21-1) its first loss, 4-1, in the first round of the PIAA state Class AA tournament at Allentown's West End Racquet Club. Madison Cohen, Arianne Polatnick and Jessie Hyman gave the Lions straight-set singles wins.

Harriton defeated Masterman, 5-0, at Hershey as Hannah Drayton and Rachel Benstock each posted 6-0, 6-0 singles wins.

Class AAA. District 1 champ West Chester Henderson dominated its state first-round match, 5-0, over Lower Dauphin at the Arthur Ashe Center. Erin Bowsher, Corinne Fleet and Becca Rodgers combined to lose four games in six singles sets.

Manheim Township rallied from a 2-5 deficit in the third set to win the first-doubles match, clinching a 3-2 win over Conestoga at Hershey. The Pioneers got wins from Ashley Lyon at third singles, and Lindsey Taaffe and Kaylee Yan at second doubles.

Wissahickon blanked District 12 champ Cardinal O'Hara, 5-0, at Arthur Ashe with the doubles teams of Kathleen Fuh and Darcy Horn, and Nora Landells and Christie Cesarini combining to lose just one game.

Tri-County. Wendy Woods posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the first-singles final and was one of three winners for Barrack Hebrew in the league's individual championships at Perkiomen School.

Soccer

Nikki Weiss headed in Emily Casey's crossing pass in the first overtime, giving Central Bucks South a 3-2 win over visiting Downingtown West in the first round of the District 1 Class AAA playoffs.

West Chester Rustin tripped visiting Pennsbury, 1-0, as goalie Ashley Rundell made four saves and Janna Brown scored on a free kick in the 26th minute.

Neshaminy advanced with a 3-0 shutout of visiting Unionville, aided by Megan Schafer's goal and one assist, and McKenna Mullin's five saves in goal. Katie Suchodolski netted a 25-yard free kick.

Annie Axenroth's unassisted goal with 7 minutes to go boosted Central Bucks East past visiting Upper Dublin, 1-0.

Inter-Ac. Germantown Academy freshman Rebecca Schafle scored her first career goal during a 6-0 win at Baldwin.

Field Hockey

Marisa Mazza scored in the 15th minute, and Kyle Chapin added an insurance goal as New Hope-Solebury defeated visiting Delco Christian, 2-0, in the first round of the District 1 Class AA Tournament. Lions goalie Kira Petrie made eight saves.

Octorara's Missy Stefanosky tied the game with 8:26 left and scored again a minute later to beat visiting Harriton, 2-1. Caleigh Foust had given the Rams a brief 1-0 lead.

Merion Mercy ousted visiting Sacred Heart, 3-0, with goals by Marissa Martinelli, Olivia Nostrandt and Meghan Sack.

Phoenixville's 6-0 win over visiting Pope John Paul II included two goals each by Chandler DiFebbo and Megan Loughery.

Inter-Ac. On Senior Day at Notre Dame, senior goalie Emily Fuss moved out of the goal as a field player for the final 5 minutes and scored her first varsity goal, capping a 5-0 win over Penn Charter.

Public. Brianna Lineman's goal gave Girls High a 1-0 win at Lincoln, ending the scholastic careers of Railsplitters twin senior cocaptains Amber and Ashley Austin.

Volleyball

The District 1 Class AAA playoffs opened with host Villa Maria's 25-22, 25-7, 25-13 win over Council Rock North. Rebecca Bates contributed 20 digs and five aces, and Janelle Furia had 20 assists.
