Tues. Pa. girls’ roundup: Masterman rolls into final

Olivia Franzzo pitched well in defeat for the Huskies, giving up only four hits, but she was victimized by three errors.

Molly Hemphill had two hits and three RBIs for the Dragons (14-3).

In the other semifinal at La Salle, Rachel Broomhead's single drove in Paige Laige with the winning run in the seventh inning to help Franklin Towne Charter outslug Northeast, 19-18.

Pa. Independent Schools. Host Abington Friends, fresh off its Friends Schools League title, coasted to a 10-0 win over Hill School in a first-round game behind the one-hit pitching of Kelsey Clark, who struck out 11 of the 18 batters she faced.

In another first-round game at Rosemont College, Olivia Powers pitched a three-hitter to lead Shipley past Perkiomen School, 3-0.

Catholic. In a semifinal at Arcadia University, third-seeded St. Hubert topped No. 2 Archbishop Ryan, 8-2, as Erica Ragazzone pitched a seven-hitter.

In the other semifinal at Arcadia, top-seeded Lansdale Catholic nipped No. 4 Archbishop Carroll, 11-10, as Melissa Chapman stroked a two-run walk-off double in the seventh.

Lacrosse

At West Chester Henderson, top-seeded Downingtown East got four goals from Ashley Poli to beat Springfield (Delaware County), 14-8, in a District 1 tournament semifinal.

Soccer

Both Kiarah Cannady and Meghan Wadlinger had goals and assists in Central's 3-0 Public League soccer playoff semifinal win over Masterman at Northeast.

Franklin Towne Charter got two goals and an assist from Sarah Rodgers to beat Philadelphia Academy Charter, 4-0, in the other semifinal.

Cannady got the Lancers (15-2) a 1-0 lead 21 mintues into the game off a pass from Wadlinger and Wadlinger converted a Beth Lussenhop assist into a 2-0 halftime lead.

Lexi Quinn scored off a cross from Cannady for the game's final goal 17 mintues into the second half.

Central dominated the play, peppering the Masterman goal with 19 shots. The Blue Dragons managed only one shot on Lancer goalie Samantha Cavalli, who now has 11 shutouts in 17 games.

The title game will be played at Northeast on Thursday at 5 p.m.

District 1 Tournament. In a semifinal at Central Bucks West, Shea Neal's two goals gave Christopher Dock a 3-1 win over Springfield (Montgomery County).
