Pa. Girls: Fords' Newman fires no-hitter

After pitching a two one-hitters and a two-hitter, freshman Bridget Newman took the next step for Haverford High on Monday, tossing the first no-hitter of her young career in a 5-0 nonleague softball win at Interboro.

Archbishop Carroll's Monica Clark is safe at second as Conwell-Egan's Regina Milburn comes up with a late tag. Carroll posted an 8-1 victory to remain undefeated at 7-0.

After pitching a two one-hitters and a two-hitter, freshman Bridget Newman took the next step for Haverford High on Monday, tossing the first no-hitter of her young career in a 5-0 nonleague softball win at Interboro.

Newman had eight strikeouts in the seven-inning game and also had a pair of hits and two RBIs.

In other nonleague games:

Leadoff hitter Caroline Schoenewald proved to be a good table-setter for Central Bucks East, going 3 for 5 in a 9-7 win at Conestoga.

Grace Boston pitched a four-inning no-hitter for Cardinal O'Hara in a 17-1 win over visiting Academy Park.

Public. Emily Ashbridge had a season-high 14 strikeouts in six innings of host Masterman's 10-0 win over GAMP.

Franklin Towne Charter got four hits and seven RBIs from Valentina Scalici in a 30-1 win at Ben Franklin.

Olivia Franzzo pitched a three-inning no-hitter for host Prep Charter in its 15-0 win over Swenson. Teammate Ali Russo was 3 for 3.

Dana Kilgarriff's first-inning three-run homer got Saul off to a good start in a 19-8 win at University City.

Sophomore pitcher Taylor Rovar had her first career no-hitter for Bodine in its 10-0 win over visiting Del-Val Charter. Rovar struck out eight and walked none in the five-inning game.

Kelly Snell followed a first-inning grand slam with another home run in the third to lead Engineering and Science in a 26-5 win at Roxborough.

Catholic. Visiting Archbishop Carroll remained unbeaten with an 8-1 win at Conwell-Egan, the first win in five years for the Patriots over the Eagles. Kristin Beaty pitched all seven innings to earn the win, her sixth of the season. The Patriots (7-0 overall, 4-0 league) got three RBIs from Kerri Hunt and two from Lizzy Citrone.

Ches-Mont. Kate Poppe scattered four hits and struck out 12 to lead Bishop Shanahan to a 3-1 win over visiting Sun Valley, the 11th win in as many games for the Eagles. Poppe has won 10 of those games.

Casey Herring struck out 12 of the 19 batters she faced for Downingtown West in a 12-2 win over visiting West Chester Rustin.

Brianna Andraos pitched a three-inning no-hitter for host West Chester East in its 15-0 win over Octorara. She also went 3 for 3 at the plate with three RBIs.

West Chester Henderson's Lauren Butts outpitched Kalyn Butt in a 6-2 win over Oxford. Butts allowed four hits, while Butt gave up nine hits.

Friends Schools. Senior righthander Caroline Satoloff pitched a two-hitter and struck out four consecutive batters for Friends' Central in a 13-1 win at Germantown Friends.

Track and Field

Swenson's Amy Hicks beat teammate Amani Nesmith to win the 100-meter hurdles in the Public League Relays at Germantown. Hicks finished in 15.1 seconds, Nesmith in 16.4.

Lacrosse

Olivia Gannon had seven goals for Mount St. Joseph in a 22-6 Athletic Association of Catholic Academies win at Nazareth Academy.

Soccer

Savannah Cawley's three goals powered Bodine to a 3-1 Public League win at Northeast in a battle of unbeatens in the B Division.

In other league games:

The first goal of Kabria Johnson's career gave host Dobbins a 1-0 overtime win over Douglas.

Washington posted its first win of the year, 8-7, over visiting Science Leadership behind Aselia Isakova's three goals.
