Fri. Pa. boys’ roundup: Upper Moreland wins on walkoff homer

When Dave McInerney saw a breaking pitch from Upper Merion pitcher Ray Gambone Friday, he knew what to do with it.

With one out in the bottom of the 10th inning, McInerney sent Gambone's pitch soaring into center field for his second home run of the game and sent Upper Moreland home with a 5-4 victory in a Suburban One American Conference baseball game Friday.

McInerney's first homer was a two-run shot in the third inning. He also hit a single to go 3 for 5. Winning pitcher Robert Knoz also hit a home run for the Golden Bears.

Public. Frankie Holt delivered a two-run single in the top of the seventh inning to give Southern the lead and the Rams held on to beat host Furness, 3-2.

Holt's hit gave Southern a 3-1 lead, bringing the Rams back from a 1-0 deficit. Evan Harper's RBI single in the bottom of the inning cut the lead to 3-2, but the Falcons stranded a runner at third base with a game-ending strikeout.

Stephen King earned the win after going the distance and striking out 12 while allowing a walk and five hits. Losing pitcher Ryan Gonzalez struck out 16 and gave up seven hits with two walks.

Mike Cavallaro went 3 for 4 with a triple and scored twice and teammate Christian Gonzalez scored the winning run on a passed ball in the sixth inning as Central slipped past visiting Esperanza, 7-6.

Marshall Johnston hit a single, double, and triple, knocked in two runs, and picked up a pair of steals as Science Leadership got past visiting Lamberton, 7-6.

Juwan Jordan struck out 11 in a complete-game effort and sparked Prep Charter to a 5-3 win over visiting Bok.

Germantown came from behind with seven runs in the second inning and ended a four-game losing streak with a 12-9 win over host Mariana Bracetti.

Khary Redmond hit his second home run in as many days, drove in two runs, and scored twice for the Bears.

Boys' Latin scored eight runs in the top of the first inning and went on to beat host Engineering and Science, 11-8.

Jon McDowell, Devaughn Glover, and Antonio Harris hit doubles for the Warriors.

Masterman got two doubles and a single from Joey Powell and beat visiting GAMP, 6-3.

Suburban One National. Eric Tidwell plated the winning run in the sixth inning with a single and Abington topped host Bensalem, 3-2.

Darren Heise smacked a pair of singles and drove in a run as Neshaminy beat visiting William Tennent, 7-6.

Ches-Mont. Chas McCormick tossed a one-hitter and led West Chester Henderson past visiting Coatesville, 2-0.

McCormick struck out seven and walked two for the Warriors, who scored all of their runs in the fifth inning.

Nick Cattania hit a solo home run in the sixth inning and helped Kennett beat visiting Oxford, 2-0. Nick Massetti pitched a three-hitter for the Blue Demons.

Greg Corialos hit his second leadoff home run in as many days and sparked West Chester East to an 8-4 win over host Bishop Shanahan.

Bicentennial. Evan Brown pitched a five-inning no-hitter and lifted new Hope-Solebury past visiting MaST Charter, 12-0.

Brown struck out four and came within two errors of a perfect game.

Friends Schools. Steve Ben singled, stole second and third, and scored on a fielder's choice in the sixth inning to give Germantown Friends a 3-2 win over host Academy of the New Church.

Nonleague. Mike Piscopo scored on an error and Kevin Piotrowicz went home on a suicide squeeze bunt to give La Salle a 6-4 win over visiting Holy Ghost Prep.

Jeff Durkin ripped three doubles and drove in three runs for Swenson in a 12-10 win over host Saul.

Both runs came in the sixth inning, breaking a 4-4 tie.

Tennis

Ricardo Prince was tested but won every match in straight sets en route to the Suburban One American Conference singles title at Plymouth Whitemarsh.

Prince beat Andrei Tulic of Cheltenham for the title, 6-4, 6-4.

Lacrosse

Haverford School got scoring from nine players and handled visiting Episcopal Academy, 11-5, in an Inter-Ac League game.

Hup Hupfeldt notched a hat trick while Conor Kelly and Colin Heffernan split 10 saves for the Fords.

Catholic. Fenton Fitzpatrick came through with a hat trick and helped St. Joseph's Prep beat visiting Cardinal O'Hara, 9-1.

Suburban One. Matt Figueroa and Brian Gallagher picked up three goals each as Abington downed host Pennsbury, 10-6.

Friends Schools. Julius Mouser collected five goals and four assists for Shipley in a 13-0 win over visiting Westtown.
