Local teams vying in state basketball semifinals

Turns out, it's a best-of-three series.

Turns out, it's a best-of-three series.

After meeting late in the Public League basketball regular season and again in a Pub semifinal, Constitution and Math, Civics and Sciences Charter will go at it again Tuesday night in a PIAA Class A semifinal.

Up for grabs, aside from pride, will be a journey to Penn State for Friday's state championship battle against the western representative.

Tuesday night's game will take place at Southern at 6 o'clock.

MC & S won the first meeting, 63-56, behind guards Tyreek Riddick (17) and Warren Dogan (16). Constitution prevailed in Game 2, 56-53, as swingman Abdul King (14), Penn-bound forward Xavier Harris (13) and star junior guard Daiquan Walker (12) led a balanced attack.

Wednesday's AA state semi, likewise set for Southern (though at 6:30), will also be an all-Pub affair.

The combatants will be Imhotep Charter, which recently captured a third consecutive PL crown, and Communications Tech. These teams have met only once this season. On Jan. 25, Imhotep frolicked to the tune of 67-40 behind guard Terrell Johnson (18), Niagara-bound swingman Ameen Tanksley (13) and center Erik Copes (10, George Washington signee).

Meanwhile, also Tuesday night, Ss. Neumann-Goretti, the defending state champ, will meet Lancaster Catholic at 7:30 at Spring-Ford High in Royersford in a AAA semifinal. *
