Fri. Pa. boys’ roundup: Chance sparks Phila. Electrical

The 5-foot-10 Chance tied the game on a short jumper with 7.1 seconds left in regulation to force the overtime and, once there, his three-pointer with 17.3 seconds left gave the Chargers the win.

Vaux tried two shots after that, but both missed.

Chance led the Chargers (22-3) with 19 points.

David George added 13 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots for Philadelphia Electrical. The Chargers will face Imhotep Charter on Tuesday at Southern.

In other quarterfinals:

Math, Civics and Sciences' got a No. 1 performance from its No. 6 man in a 78-53 win over Bartram.

Sixth man Tyreek Riddick finished with 20 points, 15 coming from three-point range.

Riddick hit a pair of three-pointers in the first quarter, helping the Mighty Elephants pull to a 16-13 lead. He added nine points on three-pointers in the third quarter as his team used a 26-10 run to take control.

Riddick was one of four players to reach double figures for Math, Civics and Sciences. Thomas Moore and Jeremiah Worthem added 17 points apiece and Warren Dogan chipped in with 12.

The Mighty Elephants (21-4) also got 14 rebounds from Muhammad Amin.

Constitution advanced to a semifinal date against Math, Civics and Sciences by beating Frankford, 76-57, also at Southern, led by Xavier Harris' 16 points.

Imhotep Charter earned its spot in the semifinals with an 85-46 win over Boys' Latin, getting 20 points from Ameen Tanksley and 10 points and nine rebounds from Erik Copes. A fourth-quarter three-pointer gave Tanksley his 1,000th career point.

Abdul King added 13 and Amonie Holloman and Mamadou Diakite added 12 points apiece.

Holloman scored all of his points on three-pointers. Harris scored nine of his points during a 19-10 second-quarter run for the Generals.

The game was a rematch of a Dec. 18 game between the teams at the same venue, won that time by Frankford, 70-69. In that game, Keith Washington scored the winning basket with eight seconds left.

Catholic. In a quarterfinal, host Neumann-Goretti placed four starters in double figures and coasted to a 63-39 win over Monsignor Bonner. La'quan Coaxum, a junior, had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Juan'ya Green posted a career-high 39 points to lead Archbishop Carroll past visiting St. Joseph's Prep, 72-67.

The Niagara-bound Green scored 13 in the final quarter.

La Salle's Eddie Mitchell made six of his seven shots from the field and finished with 20 points in a 55-34 quarterfinal win over visiting Archbishop Wood.

Sophomore John Davis added 12 points and 14 rebounds. Scott Slade's 17 points led the Friars.

Pa. Independent Schools. In a semifinal, host Friends' Central outlasted Abington Friends, 61-58, as Malique Killing led the way with 19 points.

In the other semifinal, Steve Perpiglia's putback at the overtime buzzer gave Malvern Prep a 28-26 win over Academy of the New Church.

District 1 Class AAAA. Upper Darby beat Kennett, 71-37, in a first-round playoff game as Brandon Hashim scored 19 points. The fourth-seeded Royals (22-1) jumped out to a 23-15 lead at the end of the first quarter and never trailed after that, thanks to Brandon Hashim, who scored eight of his 19 points in the first quarter.

Host Glen Mills survived a Central Bucks West stall to win, 29-28, in overtime.

Raheem Harvey's putback with 1:20 left in regulation forced overtime and his free throw with two minutes left in overtime was the extra session's only point.

Maleek Williams and Rasheed Johnson each scored 15 points to lead host and No. 7 Norristown to a 47-41 win over 26th-seeded Ridley.

Zack DeVito had four free throws and a layup in overtime to lift Springfield (Delaware County) past host Cheltenham, 56-55.

Aaron Goodman scored 14 points for host Council Rock North in its 43-28 win over Great Valley.

Marcus Badger scored 18 points for host Plymouth Whitemarsh in a 78-42 win over Interboro.

Host Pennridge ran its record to 18-5 with a 74-54 win over West Chester Henderson as Mike Guldin scored 24 points.

North Penn got 17 points from Sean Brooks in a 49-38 win over visiting Upper Dublin.

Penn Wood got 24 points from West Virginia recruit Aaron Brown in a 90-65 win over visiting Conestoga.

Host Wissahickon got 13 points, nine on three-pointers, from Anthony McKie in a 47-43 win over Spring-Ford.

Swimming

On the first-day of the two-day District 12 Class AAA championships at La Salle University, LaSalle's high sweep of the 200-medley and 200-freestyle relays was the highlight.

In Class AA, Archbishop Wood had a pair of individual winners in Kevin McGuckin (200 individual medley) and Ian Mee (100 butterfly).
