BAL schools move up girls’ soccer move

The six Bicentennial Athletic League schools that were planning to shift their girls' soccer programs from the spring to the fall in 2012 will make the move a year ahead of schedule.

The six - Calvary Christian, Christopher Dock, Lower Moreland, New Hope-Solebury, Plumstead Christian, and Springfield (Montco) - are in the BAL's Independence Conference. The league's athletic directors approved the one-year move-up on Monday, Christopher Dock athletic director Tim Ehst said.

Teams in the BAL's Constitution Conference - Delaware County Christian, Girard College, MaST Charter, and Phil-Mont Christian - played in the fall this past season.

Until the 2009-10 school year, the PIAA held girls' soccer state tournaments in both the fall and spring. The elimination of the spring playoffs led some teams, including ones in the Suburban One League, to push girls' soccer to the fall season.
