Wed. Pa. wrestling roundup: Snider reaches 100 wins

The host Phoenix split a pair of Friends Schools League matches, falling to Westtown, 48-11, before beating Abington Friends, 66-15.

With the win over Friends' Central, unbeaten Westtown (11-0 overall, 5-0 league) clinched the top seed in the league team tournament.

Snider accounted for four of the 11 team points against Westtown with a major decision over Ethan Tenkel, 9-0, in that match for career win No. 100. No. 101 was a first-period pin (1 minute, 29 seconds) against Abington Friends' Connor Gray. Snider improved to 20-3 this season.

Westtown's Alex Becker ran his record to 22-1 with a decision in the 119-pound bout and now has 101 career wins.

The Quakers had six pins in the match and Nick Sawyer needed only 20 seconds to deck Andrew Vickery for his 21st win of the season at 130. Teammate Zephyr Fin (152) posted a decision for his 21st win, as well.

Inter-Ac. Episcopal Academy is just one team bout away from finishing with an unbeaten season, after registering a 54-16 win over visiting Penn Charter.

The Churchmen (11-0, 4-0) built the lead with wins in three close matches.

Will Deasey nipped Stanton Young, 3-2, in the 135-pound bout, Ben Chung decisioned Gene Pak, 4-3, at 140, and Carl Lampe decisioned Joe Woodruff, 10-8, at 171.

One of the most impressive performances of the afternoon for Episcopal came from Matt Lasensky, who registered a technical fall in the 130-pound bout.

Central. Upper Darby had five pins in a 48-14 win at Penncrest, the quickest coming from Kevin Tillery in the 189-pound bout. Tillery pinned Evan Marabella in 2:27. Teammate Matt Carney (125) pinned Michael Newman in 3:21.

Other pins for the Royals went to Long Le (112), Caleb Livingston (160), and Ayitey Kwei-Quaye (285). Austin Petril (103) had a technical fall.

Two close decisions were the key for Strath Haven in its 35-27 win at Radnor.

At 135, Steve Trevz decisioned Kyle Gentner, 10-8. Paul Manwaring nipped Kody Whipple, 6-5, in the 152-pound bout.

Del-Val. Host Interboro swept all but two bouts on the way to a 64-8 win over Academy Park.

The Bucs' quickest pin went to Craig Gsell, who decked his foe in 26 seconds.

Suburban One National. Brothers Billy and Matt Rappo and Matt and Danny Martoccio accounted for four of the five pins for host Council Rock South in its 51-19 win over Pennsbury.

Billy Rappo, wrestling at 103, decked Jason Bing with two seconds to go in the first period.

Matt Rappo pinned Patrick Schlatter (3:25) in the 140-pound bout.

Danny Martoccio, at 125, earned a first-period pin, as did his brother, Matt, at 145.

Tim Riley (189) registered a third-period pin for the Golden Hawks.

Suburban One American. Aaron Rodriguez pinned Ben Greenwood in just 17 seconds at 112 pounds to help host Wissahickon clinch a 42-28 win over rival Upper Dublin.

Rodriguez's pin gave the Trojans a 38-22 team lead, and it followed a decision by teammate Nick Christian at 103.

The match started at 130 with Upper Dublin's Nick DiMuzio registering a major decision over Will Beradelli.

The Trojans took four consecutive wins as Patrick Fennell (135), Sean Saunders (140), and Brennan Weiss earned decisions and Daniel Schueren (152) registered a second-period pin. Upper Dublin's Ryan Hopkins won the heavyweight bout with a third-period pin.
