Wed. Pa. boys’ and girls’ roundup: Another milestone for Morris

The latest came on Wednesday, the result of a 65-58 Catholic League win over visiting Archbishop Ryan. It was league win No. 560, tying him for the top overall spot among Catholic League coaches with Buddy Gardler (Bishop Kenrick, Cardinal O'Hara).

Earlier this week, Morris reached overall high school win No. 600 (counting a stint at Penn Charter).

The Hawks (13-5 overall, 7-2 league) did it at the free-throw line, making 27 of 31. Stephen Vasturia led the way with 23 points and Miles Overton added 18. Vasturia made all 11 of his free throws.

The Raiders, who were tied with the Hawks going into the final quarter, got a terrific effort from Eric Fleming, who hit for 25 points.

In other league games:

Steve Griffin and Nick Sullivan each scored 15 points to lead host Father Judge past Monsignor Bonner, 72-64.

Lamin Fulton had 22 points and John Davis added 21 for Neumann-Goretti in a 79-66 win at West Catholic.

Host Roman Catholic overwhelmed Cardinal O'Hara, 74-36, behind freshman Shep Garner's 21 points and five steals.

Another freshman, Rip Engle, added 15 points.

Public. Warren Dogan had 18 points and Jeremiah Worthem added 17 for host Math, Civics and Sciences in an 83-54 win over Elverson.

Perimeter shooting was the key for Boys' Latin in its 78-46 win at Mastbaum as it knocked down 13 three-pointers, five by junior point guard Maurice Watson (28 points).

Keith Washington scored half of his game-high 16 points in the fourth quarter as Frankford pulled away to a 53-36 win at Southern.

The Rams got 15 points and nine rebounds from Jermaine Flowers.

Andrew Moye scored half of his game-high 20 points in the third quarter to lead host Simon Gratz past Fels, 73-54.

Suburban One National. Host Neshaminy, ranked No. 8 in The Inquirer Top 10, rallied from nine points down in the final 2 minutes, 30 seconds to nip Bensalem, 52-50. The Redskins were led by Ryan Arcidiacono's 19 points.

Penn-Jersey. International Christian got 20 points from Justin Robinson in a 65-57 win at Doane Academy (N.J.).

Girls' Basketball

Isabella Ross scored 19 points and added 10 rebounds to help host Central beat Lincoln, 60-23, and remain unbeaten in the Public League.

The Lancers (10-5, 9-0) also got 11 points, seven assists, and five steals from Najah Jacobs.

It was the second consecutive 60-23 win for the Lancers. They beat Overbrook by the same score on Monday.

In other league games:

Brittney Lambert scored 16 points for host Northeast in its 46-22 win over Edison.

Overbrook placed all five starters in double figures, led by Dianna Murhead-Dwyer's 20 points, in a 70-40 win at Olney.

Siena Childs scored 16 points for host Girls High in a 50-23 win over Fels.

Frankford got 15 points apiece from Maria Avalos and Tanaya Lofton-Williams in a 61-18 win at rival Washington.

Taneil Ruffin scored eight of Masterman's points during a 12-5 first-quarter run in a 39-31 win at Math, Civics, and Sciences.

Sarah Rodgers scored the first 10 points of the game and finished with 19 for host Franklin Towne Charter in a 36-29 win over Dobbins. She also keyed the defense with 11 steals.

Senior Day turned out to be a success for High School of the Future in its 65-35 win over visiting Germantown. Senior Shaquita Williams led the way with 28 points, scoring 10 in the first quarter.

Catholic. Sarah Curran had 23 points for host Archbishop Carroll in its 68-31 win over Neumann-Goretti.

Nonleague. Monica Schacker drained six three-pointers and finished with 28 points to lead Germantown Academy to a 62-41 win at Hill School.

Kiernan McCloskey added 11 points for the Patriots. The Blues got 14 points from Kerri Taylor and 13 more from Stephanie Schultz.

Sloan Warren scored 19 points for Baldwin in its 42-19 win at Germantown Friends.

The Bears, who also got 10 points from Jennifer Motter, took control of the game with a 15-5 first quarter.

Caroline Myran led the Tigers with 12 points.
