Fri. Pa. girls’ roundup: Three-pointer sparks Abington Friends

Delaney's three-pointer with 2 minutes, 30 seconds left put the Kangaroos on top, 33-32, and Bianca Adams' eight-foot jumper 45 seconds later increased the lead to five points.

Kelsey Clark led Abington Friends with 14 points and connected on four three-point shots. The Kangaroos are 12-6 overall, 5-2 league.

In other league games:

Shipley remained unbeaten in the league with a 62-20 win over visiting Moorestown Friends (N.J.) as four starters reached double figures, led by Celeste Golub's 16 points. Jordyn Turner, a 6-foot forward, had 16 rebounds to go with her 14 points and freshman guard Sox Alexander added 15 points, 10 steals and eight assists. Colleen Walsh also chipped in with 11 points for the Gators (11-7, 6-0).

Julya Loder and Katherine Walden each scored 12 points for host Germantown Friends in its 35-18 win over Academy of the New Church. The Tigers outscored the Lions, 16-0, in the third quarter, when Walden scored half of her points. She also added four rebounds and two blocked shots.

Senior point guard Monaye Merritt scored 21 points to power Friends' Central to a 62-38 win at George School. Maria Conyers-Jordan added 15 points for the Phoenix. Steph Heys scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half to pace the Cougars.

Inter-Ac. Despite 35 points from Baldwin's Sloan Warren, visiting Agnes Irwin came away with a comfortable 58-44 win. The Owls (6-9 overall, 2-6 league) did it by having nine players score. Only three scored for the Bears. Emily Wetz, a 5-foot-5 junior guard, led the Owls with 16 points and scored half of their 18 first-quarter points.

Central. Chelci Asbury hit two free throws with nine seconds left to give Haverford High a 50-49 win at Ridley.

Six-foot sophomore Alex Poplawski scored 15 points for Springfield (Delaware County) in its 43-37 win at Strath Haven.

Suburban One National. Alex Wheatley had 26 points, nine in a 12-2 first-quarter run, as Council Rock South won at Neshaminy, 34-21.

Host Abington overcame an early deficit to roll past Pennsbury, 52-36. The Ghosts trailed, 11-9, going into the second quarter but took the lead for good with a 21-10 advantage in the second quarter. Aiyannah Peal had a game-high 19 points for Abington, while Jessica Schmidt added 16 and Sarah Listenbee 10.

Listenbee posted 10 rebounds for a double-double.

Suburban One American. Christina Coleman's 18 points, 12 rebounds and three steals carried host Cheltenham to a 73-37 win over Upper Merion.

Kristina O'Sullivan's 15 points led the Vikings.

Norristown placed four starters in double figures in its 69-43 win at Upper Moreland. The Eagles were led by Tyshay Britten, who scored six of her 15 points during the third quarter.

Taylor Bryant and Jen Myers each scored 15 points for Upper Dublin in a 56-48 win at Plymouth Whitemarsh.

Bicentennial. Jen Khoo scored 16 points and Katie Siebert added 11 as Phil-Mont Christian earned a 43-27 win at Plumstead Christian.

Kievanna Lacey, a 5-8 forward, scored 21 points to lead host Morrisville past New Hope-Solebury, 56-41. The Bulldogs (9-6, 6-5) clamped down on the Tess Frelick, the Lions' leading scorer with a box-and-one defense, holding her to just six points. New Hope-Solebury was led by Erin Moss, who scored 17 points.

Lower Moreland freshman Demi Morganstein scored eight of her 12 points in the second quarter to in a 49-27 win over visiting Bristol.

Christopher Dock thumped visiting Jenkintown, 56-18, getting 14 points from Lauren Swintosky and 13 more from Jenessa Derstine.

The Pioneers (13-3, 11-1), who suffered their first league loss Thursday night against Delco Christian, soared to a 35-7 lead at halftime.

Ches-Mont. Host Downingtown East remained unbeaten in the National Division with a 63-40 win over West Chester Henderson as Noelle Alicea scored 19 points. The Cougars (14-3, 9-0) also got 12 points from Michelle Kolonawski.

Judy Reinhardt's 10 points helped host Oxford past Kennett, 29-18.

Pioneer Athletic. Mariah Traywick scored 14 points to lead Spring-Ford to a 51-29 win at Methacton.

Catholic Academies. Host Nazareth Academy used a big third quarter to beat Villa Maria, 41-38. Maggie Borski scored nine of her 14 points during that 17-8 third-quarter run for the Pandas. Villa Maria chipped away at the lead in the fourth quarter, but the game ended with Nazareth Academy holding both a three-point lead and the ball.

Danielle Gasperi added 12 points for Nazareth Academy. Brooke Angelos led the Hurricanes with 14 points.
