Sat. Pa. boys’ and girls’ roundup: Constitution victorious

Xavier Harris added a dozen points for Constitution (12-2), which used a 25-7 third-quarter spree to erase an 11-point halftime deficit - and extend the Generals' winning streak to 10 games.

In other Rucker-Philly Invitational action:

Frankford built a 41-25 halftime lead, then held on to beat Strawberry Mansion, 72-61. Keith Washington had 25 points and six assists, and Omar Askia chipped in with 21 points and eight rebounds.

Anthony Guess (15 points), Shon Phillips (14), and Markeith Mont (13) led 10 players in the scoring column for World Communications, which closed with a 27-11 run to put away Bodine, 67-44. Junior guard Nadir Matthews pumped in 25 points for Bodine.

Jermaine Flowers of Southern made himself at home by tossing in 25 points, but Boys' Latin came out on top, 62-50, thanks to double-figure scoring by Maurice Watson (24 points), Kwahlil Coleman Jones (13), and Yahmir Greenlee (12).

Trenton vs. Philly Tournament. Kenny Johnson capped his 23-point performance by scoring seven down the stretch, allowing Abington Friends to put away host Trenton Catholic, 59-48.

Joey Gripper added 16 points and Jabril Trawick netted 14 for the Kangaroos (10-4), who trailed by three at halftime. Brandon Taylor (14 points) and Ronnie Paden (10) topped the scoring for the Iron Mikes.

Day Spring Classic. Antwan Laster's 17-point performance provided the lone highlight for International Christian, which suffered a 64-41 loss to Hammond Christian (Ind.) in the consolation round in Chicago.

Bicentennial. Godfrey Baldez had the hot hand early, scoring 16 of his 22 points in the first half, and Mike Hutson came on to add 20 points to highlight host Phil-Mont Christian's 63-28 romp past Bristol.

Nonleague. Devin Coleman complemented his season-high 30-point effort with a dozen rebounds, and Amile Jefferson tossed in 23 points to lead Friends' Central over Quality Education (N.C.), 63-50, at Baruch College (N.Y.).

Aaron Morgan picked up 12 of his 20 points in the final period, allowing Council Rock North to complete its 59-47, come-from-behind victory at Glen Mills.

Gilman Myran (18 points) and Sam Hill-Cristol (12) combined to score 15 in a 19-4 fourth-quarter blitz that vaulted host Germantown Friends over GAMP, 54-42.

Pennsbury's Kieran Bolger put on a long-range shooting clinic, connecting on seven three-point baskets in scoring 24, but Church Farm grabbed the lead early and went on to win, 76-62. Howard Sellars (24 points), Martin Evans (14) and Abdul Cooper (13) sparked the Griffins.

Girls' Basketball

Brittany Hrynko led all scorers with 27 points and made the play of the game - a length-of-the-court drive and dish to Monique Whaley-Briggs for the buzzer-beating layup - as Engineering and Science upended Abington, 54-53, in the Philly.com/Rally SPBP Classic at Philadelphia University.

Abington had taken a one-point lead with 7.3 seconds left on two free throws by Chynna West (14 points). Aiyannah Peal had 14 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists, and Jessica Schmidt scored 13 for the Galloping Ghosts.

In other Classic action:

Mary Jo Horgan totaled 19 points, four rebounds, and four steals, and Steph Smith dropped in 18 points to key Mount St. Joseph's 49-40 victory over Spring-Ford.

Cardinal O'Hara opened the game with a 19-2 spree and held on to defeat Smyrna (Del.), 55-47. Shanice Johnson fashioned a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and MacKenzie Rule contributed 10 points and six assists for the Lions.

Alex Gallagher came through with 23 points, seven rebounds and four assists; Jaryn Garner shot 5 for 6 from the field in netting 14; and Germantown Academy had 10 players score in a 71-24 rout of Central.

Chandler Lally's 14-point, 12-rebound performance allowed Radnor to rebound from a slow start and take a 52-44 triumph over Chester. Georria Clark's 16 points paced the Clippers, who ran out to a 17-12 lead.

Notre Dame went on a 29-10 run over the second and third quarters to pull away from St. Basil, 45-19. Megan McGurk led the Irish with 12 points, three steals, and three assists, and teammate Kathleen Fitzpatrick contributed 12 points and four assists.

Bicentennial. Joyce Randolph saved her best for last, scoring 9 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, completing Girard College's 46-43 comeback win at Lower Moreland.

Tess Frelick totaled 21 points, 12 rebounds and two steals, Erin Moss scored 15 and Kate Suler cleared 11 rebounds in powering host New Hope-Solebury past Bristol, 52-37.

Central. Garnet Valley's attack shifted into a higher gear in the second half to run away from visiting Conestoga, 58-38. Sophomore guard Coley Ricci had 13 points while senior forwards Chelsea Brown and Alaina Bradley scored 10 apiece for the Jaguars.

Ches-Mont. Grace Capuzzi (21 points) tied it with a pair of free throws with 25 seconds left in regulation and added three points in overtime, helping Bishop Shanahan pull out a 50-48 victory at West Chester East. Nina Mazzarelli (19 points), Karissa Smith (15) and Kim Petrick (10) supplied almost all of East's scoring.

Nonleague. Junior center Michelle Boggs had 19 points to go along with a career-high 17 rebounds, and Brenna Coll (14 points) scored five in overtime to make Springside a 53-46 winner at St. Hubert. Elana Roadcloud added 10 points for Springside, including the tying basket with :06 left in regulation. Megan Decker led the Bambies with 18 points and nine rebounds.

Senior guard Shannon O'Brien made both ends of a one-and-one free-throw opportunity with :01 left, cementing Gwynedd-Mercy's 44-41 win at Quakertown. The Panthers fell despite 21 points by Lauren Starzecky.
