Playing Public League opponents apparently agrees with Germantown Academy's Jimmy Hammer.

Playing Public League opponents apparently agrees with Germantown Academy's Jimmy Hammer.

Hammer tied a career-high with 30 points, both against Public League schools, in a 62-42 nonleague boys' basketball win at Olney on Wednesday, the first time the schools have met in 19 years and the third in GA coach Jim Fenerty's 22 years.

Fenerty's first game at GA was against Olney 22 years ago in the Cardinal Dougherty Tip-Off Tournament, won by GA.

The schools also played in the Benedictine Tournament (Va.) final in 1992, also won by the Patriots.

Hammer scored 30 points against Vaux, another Public League team earlier this season.

Hammer scored 11 of his points in the first quarter when Germantown Academy raced out to a 22-6 lead.

The Patriots (7-6) also got a terrific effort from 6-3 junior forward Beau Jones, who had 18 rebounds.

In other nonleague games:

Dan Mengel scored 11 of his 13 points in the first quarter to help Episcopal Academy get off to a good start in a 61-29 win at Germantown Friends.

Josh Heyliger scored 10 of his 18 points in the third quarter as Hill School beat host Perkiomen School, 75-40. Eric Fanning scored 25 points for the Indians.

Girls' Basketball

Mykea Hall's triple-double carried host University City past Ben Franklin, 45-39, in a double overtime Public League thriller.

Hall had 25 points, 13 steals, and 10 rebounds for the Jaguars.

In other league games:

Lornay Rowe scored eight of her 18 points in the fourth quarter to rally Communications Tech to a 56-48 win at Paul Robeson. Rowe, a sophomore point guard, also had 10 assists.

Masterman got 11 points from Gianna George in a 38-27 win at Science Leadership.

Parkway West's Tanisha Chambers scored 13 of her game-high 31 points in the fourth quarter in a 53-43 win at Bok.

Keyshlee Candelario's 24 points carried Edison past visiting Overbrook, 42-34.

Central placed four players in double figures, led by Najah Jacobs' 14 points, in a 67-19 win at Kensington.

Indya Lucas scored 24 points, half on three-pointers, for host Fels in its 46-26 win over Washington.

Cynthia Sao scored 13 points for Southern in a 46-24 win at Rhodes.

Led by Destiny McFarlane and Traneya White, who each scored 10 points, Girls High outscored host Lincoln in every quarter of a 39-25 win.

New Media Charter got 18 points from Brittany Brodie in a 50-13 win over visiting World Communications.

Brittany Lambert had 10 points for Northeast in a 35-23 win over visiting Franklin Towne Charter.

Delina Adams had 12 points for Mastery Charter in a 52-28 win over Maritime Academy.

Prep Charter might have shut out host Roxborough in a 70-14 win if not for Shakura Bragg-Taylor, who scored all 14 of the Indians' points. The Huskies were led by Ciera Nimmons, who scored 18 points.

Alexis Brown scored 18 points and Ashley Murray added 15 points and 11 rebounds for host Del-Val Charter in its 49-43 win over Mariana Bracetti.

Tri-County. Teharah Worrell hit a pair of three-pointers in the second half to help Mercy Vocational pull out to a 35-29 win at West-Mont Christian. The host Wings were led by Nicole Davis, who had 15 points and went over the 1,000-point mark for her career. The senior forward now has 1,008.
