The coaches of the Pioneer Athletic Conference breathed a collective sigh of relief after Ryan Brumfield carried the football for the last time of his high school career Thursday.

They won't have to game-plan for the prolific running back anymore after Owen J. Roberts beat visiting Pottstown, 49-17, to win a share of the league title with Boyertown, a 55-27 winner over Upper Perkiomen.

Brumfield carried the ball 34 times for 256 yards, scored on a 56-yard run in the third quarter, and closed out his stellar career with 8,585 rushing yards.

He passed James Mungro of East Stroudsburg and moved into the No. 2 spot of all-time rushers in Pennsylvania history, trailing just Jeremiah Young of Steelton-Highspire who finished with 9,027 yards in 2008. Earlier this season, Brumfield passed West Catholic's Curtis Brinkley to become the all-time leading rusher in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Brumfield has a football scholarship offer on the table from the University of Buffalo, plus is also drawing interest from Penn State, Pittsburgh and Rutgers.

The Wildcats (9-3, 8-1) beat the Trojans (3-9, 1-8) for the third straight time and lead the series, 29-22-1 after Sam Funk rushed for 179 yards and scored three times.

Boyertown 55, Upper Perkiomen 27 - The Bears (10-2, 8-1) earned their share of the title behind Dylan Pasik, who gained 102 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns. Boyertown leads the series, 8-3, and has won two of the last three games. The Tribe dropped to 5-7, 4-5.

Spring-Ford 26, Phoenixville 3 - The host Rams (9-3, 6-3) closed out a fine season behind senior running back Chase Stewart, who scored a pair of touchdowns.

It was the first win on Thanksgiving Day for the Rams since 2001, who have now evened the series at 10 wins apiece against the Phantoms (3-9, 2-7).

Phoenixville (3-9, 2-7) could not solve a Spring-Ford defense that benefited from two fumble recoveries and an interception.

Suburban One

In a Continental Conference game, the visiting Rams got a pair of 63-yard touchdown runs from 5-foot-9, 175-pound tailback Jesse Knepp to beat rival Quakertown, 22-12, to enable the Rams (7-5) to finish with a winning record.

Knepp's first touchdown opened the scoring and his second closed out any hopes the Panthers (4-8) had in the fourth quarter.

Pennridge now leads the series, 50-26-5, and has won five of the last six games.

Central League

Mike Clancy gained 205 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns to lead Haverford High to a 26-0 win at Upper Darby (5-7).

Clancy, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound junior, was named the offensive player of the game and scored on a 68-yard run off a counter in the third quarter that saw him break three tackles.

The Fords (5-7) won for the first time in three years and now trail the series, 43-40-6.

Haverford's 6-1, 230-pound senior linebacker Dave Pennoni had 20 tackles and was named the defensive player of the game.

Nonleague

Northeast got scoring tosses from three players in a 29-0 win over visiting Central, in the nation's oldest public school rivalry.

David Pulliam and Marc Prompt threw touchdown passes for the Vikings (9-3), while Lamont Davis added a two-point conversion toss.

Northeast leads the series, 54-51-10, and has won the last six games.

Pulliam completed seven passes for 4 of 7 passes for 115 yards, all to Rashaun Sligh.

Hatboro-Horsham 13, Upper Moreland 6 - The Hatters (3-9) proved once again that the record books can be thrown out on Thanksgiving Day, using a pair of touchdown passes from Matt Hollenbeck to win.

Playing in a light snow, Hollenbeck found Casey Saverio for an 8-yard pass in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead over the Golden Bears, who finished 8-4.

Hatboro-Horsham now leads the series with 50 wins, 20 losses and five ties. The Hatters have won three of the last four games.

Benji Abercrombie managed to get free for a 12-yard touchdown catch from Hollenbeck in the second quarter.

Matt Sawick found James Norton for a 30-yard scoring pass in the third quarter for the lone Upper Moreland score.

Abington 16, Cheltenham 7 - In a game between rivals attempting to finish with double-digit wins, the host Ghosts (10-3) prevailed, thanks to a pair of running touchdowns by quarterback Julien Ireland.

The senior scrambled for a 6-yard score in the second quarter and added a 14-yard touchdown in the fourth, both out of the shotgun formation.

The Panthers (9-3) suffered a blow on the third play of the game when quarterback Ken Cropper broke his collar bone.

Abington leads the Thanksgiving Day part of the series, 6-2, and has won the last four. The overall series started in 1917 and the Ghosts lead that, too, 54-29-6.

The last meeting between the teams was on Nov. 12, when the Ghosts won, 47-7, in a first-round District 1 Class AAAA playoff.

Dobbins 22, Ben Franklin 6 - Mustangs coach Lou Zambino retired on a high note after his team topped the Electrons (3-9) at 29th Street Stadium.

Zambino is retiring after 38 years of coaching including the last six years as the head coach at Dobbins (11-2).

Terrance Stafford helped Zambino enjoy his last game with touchdown runs of 5 and 18 yards among his 167 rushing yards.

The Mustangs, who lost to Archbishop Wood in the District 12 Class AAA championship game last weekend, lead the series, 6-4.

Neumann-Goretti 6, Southern 0 - Chad McPherson caught an 80-yard touchdown pass from Mark Stinsman in the third quarter as the Saints (4-6) got past the host Rams (3-9).

Christian DiFrancesco, Sharif Custis and Shane Thomas intercepted passes for Neumann-Goretti, and Chris Coffie and Ken Johnson did the same for Southern.

It was the fourth-straight win for the Saints who lead the series, 52-19-3.

Father Judge 34, Lincoln 0 - It snowed in 1989 which was the last time the Railsplitters (5-7) beat the Crusaders (8-3). But Judge did not let the flakes interfere this time.

Rob Daniels threw a pair of touchdown passes to Tom Mucerino (11 yards) and John Donahue (10 yards) in the first and second quarters, respectively.

The Crusaders won for the 21st-straight time and lead the series, 32-3-1.

Martin Luther King 15, Germantown 14 (OT) - Malik Paulk's extra point kick in overtime proved to be the difference as the Golden Cougars (4-7) beat the host Bears (3-9).

Mastbaum 16, University City 0 - Twin brothers Tyrin and Tyree Stone-Davis teamed up to give the Panthers (5-7) the win over the Jaguars (0-10) at Olney. Overbrook 46, West Philadelphia 20 - The visiting Panthers (7-4) got three touchdown passes from James Johnson in the win, their seventh straight in a series tied, 11-11.

David McCants also scored a pair of touchdowns for the Panthers.

In spite of the loss, West (4-7) got a record-setting performance from Eric Leslie. He caught a pair of touchdown passes covering 62 and 40 yards and set the Public League record for receiving yards in a season with 863. The previous record of 769 yards was set by Darrell Miller of Frankford in 1976.

Sun Valley 12, Chichester 6 - The Vanguards (3-9) got a touchdown pass from T.J. Marcini and a scoring sprint from Seth Snyder in the first quarter and held on to beat the host Eagles (0-12).
