The Central Bucks East boys' soccer team has gotten close to the PIAA state championship trophy during its storied history, but not as close as the Patriots will get on Saturday.

The Central Bucks East boys' soccer team has gotten close to the PIAA state championship trophy during its storied history, but not as close as the Patriots will get on Saturday.

East rallied from a 1-0 deficit in a steady rain at Tulpehocken on Wednesday and dropped District 3 runner-up Central Dauphin, 2-1, to earn a trip to the Class AAA championship game.

The Patriots (17-5-3) will play Hempfield, a 2-0 winner over Pittsburgh Central Catholic, for the title on Saturday at Hersheypark Stadium at 5 p.m. It will be the first championship game appearance for both teams. Hempfield came into the game as the No. 4 seed from District 3 while East is the No. 3 seed from District 1.

"We've been to the semis over the years including two years ago," Patriots coach Mike Gorni said. "This is awesome. The kids are unbelievably excited and the coaches are unbelievably excited."

Austin Schott gave Central Dauphin a 1-0 just past the midway point of the first half, but the Patriots got the equalizer with less than a minute left in the half.

Miguel Diaz headed the ball into the lower right corner of the net off an assist from Chris Kneeshaw to tie the game, 1-1.

Playing with the wind in the second half, Lee Sandquist converted a long throw-in by Kenny Haug into the game-winning goal with just under 17 minutes left in the contest.

Shane Donovan earned the win in goal after making seven saves on 10 Central Dauphin shots.

Postponements. Because of the inclement weather, several contests were moved to Wednesday.

Both the Archbishop Wood boys' and girls' soccer teams will play Wednesday night at West Chester East. The boys' team will play District 3 champion Lancaster Mennonite in a PIAA Class AA semifinal game at 8 p.m. The girls' team will play a Class AAA semifinal game against Conestoga, the No. 6 seed from District 1, at 5:45 p.m. Both Wood teams won the District 12 title.

In field hockey, the entire PIAA semifinal slate was moved to Wednesday. District 1 runner-up Mount St. Joseph, will play Cocalico, the No. 5 seed from District 3, in a Class AAA semifinal game at Exeter at 6 p.m.
