Masterman rolls to Public League volleyball title

Given a chance at another championship, Masterman took advantage of it in girls' volleyball on Friday.

The Blue Dragons continued the athletic domination of the school this fall with a 25-19, 25-23, 25-23 win over Central at Community College of Philadelphia.

It was the fifth straight league championship for Masterman in the sport and the 70th consecutive win in the league over a five-year period, including playoffs. In the regular season alone, the Blue Dragons have won 92 consecutive league matches over eight seasons.

Senior middle hitter Ebone Innis had 20 kills and a .400 hitting percentage and both junior Amy Louie and sophomore Sophia Elliot had 18 digs apiece.

Masterman has had an impressive fall, winning league Class AA championships in boys' soccer and boys' cross-county. The girls' cross-country team was the Class AA runner-up.

The win was particularly sweet for the volleyball team, though, coming two days after dropping the District 12 Class AA title to Archbishop Wood.

"What they lacked in experience, they made up in guts and determination," Masterman coach Dave Lieber said.
