Sat. Pa. boys’ and girls’ roundup: Harriton duo wins districts

Harriton's top-seeded doubles team of Jen Shulkin and Marnie Blumenthal earned a spot in the state tournament by winning the District 1 Class AA championship at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center on Saturday.

Harriton's top-seeded doubles team of Jen Shulkin and Marnie Blumenthal earned a spot in the state tournament by winning the District 1 Class AA championship at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center on Saturday.

Shulkin and Blumenthal topped the Lower Moreland team of Arianne Polatnick and Jess Hyman, 6-2, 6-1, in a winner-take-all final as only one team advances to the states from Class AA.

In Class AAA competition, both the quarterfinals and semifinals were completed on Saturday with the final scheduled for Wednesday at Arthur Ashe (9 a.m.).

Boys' Soccer

Alec Greenhalgh's first goal of the season came with three minutes left in the second overtime to give host Council Rock North a 2-1 win at West Chester Rustin.

Greenhalgh, a sophomore midfielder, scored on a header from 16 yards out off a cross from senior midfielder Nate Margolis.

The Indians (13-3-2) also got eight saves from junior goalie Will Terry.

In other nonleague games:

Mike Bamford scored on shot with one minute left to give host Central Bucks West a 1-0 win over Cheltenham.

Matt Kinney's two second-half goals, his first of the season, proved to be the difference for host Coatesville in a 3-1 win over Truman. John Anderson also scored for the Red Raiders (5-10-3), who got a pair of assists from Stephen Norris.

Anderson's goal was his 15th of the season.

Coatesville goalie Luis Segura turned back two of the three shots he faced.

Church Farm got three goals from Aondofa Anyam in a 4-1 win at Perkiomen School. The Griffins scored t hree second-half goals to break open a tight game. Julio Bernal also scored for Church Farm.

James Kim scored for the Indians.

Inter-Ac. Goals by Johnny Heller and Regan Papriello helped host Malvern Prep celebrate homecoming with a 2-0 win over Episcopal Academy. Both goals came in the second half for the Friars.

Bicentennial. Andrew Crisanti scored a pair of first-half goals to get host Delco Christian off to a good start in a 3-0 win over New Hope-Solebury. Matt Kyne also scored for the Knights (9-8-1), his 12th of the season.

Girls' Soccer

Conestoga evenly split six goals among three players, Jessica Hirst, Marley Jennings and Sarah Prien, in an 8-1 nonleague win over visiting Baldwin.

The Pioneers also got goals from Zoe Au and Julia Ramsey.

In other nonleague games:

Two goals by Mary Edwards were the difference for Hill School in a 4-2 win at St. Andrew's (Del.)

Left wing Jadian DeLuca scored with five minutes left in the first overtime to give host Calvary Christian a 1-0 win over King's Christian (N.J.). Jasmine Geathers had nine saves for the Crusaders.

Ches-Mont. Freshman striker Carly Freeth scored with four minutes left in the second overtime to give Bishop Shanahan a 2-1 win over visiting West Chester Henderson. Freeth's goal came off a rebound in front of the net. Nicole George also scored for the Eagles (12-4-2, 9-2-2) and teammate Colleen Folan had 1t4 saves in goal. Julie Dannenberg scored for the Warriors.
