Fri. Pa. football roundup: Olney comes through in OT

The Trojans had a fourth-and-goal at the 1-yard line in overtime. If the Trojans score, they win. If not, they had to once again keep Central out of the end zone.

Erike Taggart took away any speculation by scoring and giving Olney an 18-12 victory over the host Lancers in a Public League Class AAAA Silver Division game.

The game went back and forth until Zaim Tahiraj scored from the 5-yard line with 4 minutes, 59 seconds left in regulation to tie the game for Central, 12-12.

The Lancers (4-3, 2-3) went three-and-out in their attempt to score during overtime, allowing the Trojans (4-3, 3-3) to capitalize for the win.

On defense, Richard Drayton recorded 12 tackles from his defensive-end position for Central.

Roxborough 14, West Philadelphia 13 - The visiting Indians (5-2, 3-2) forged a 14-0 lead in the first half of their Class AAA game, then held on as their defense blocked an extra point attempt after the Speedboys (3-4, 2-3) scored with 20 seconds left.

Nick Butts bolted 1 yard for a touchdown in the opening quarter, then hit Rasheed Bailey with a 12-yard scoring strike in the second quarter.

Christian Southern caught a 20-yard scoring pass from Larry Richardson with 20 seconds left to get West close.

Martin Luther King 21, Ben Franklin 12 - Curtis Witherspoon ran for a pair of touchdowns and threw for a third as the Golden Cougars (3-3, 3-2) got past the Electrons (2-5, 2-3) at 29th Street Stadium. Witherspoon also threw for a two-point conversion.

Boys' Latin 14, University City 0 - Ben Coulibaly tallied on a 55-yard sprint and Eric Lark scored on a 2-yard blast to lead the Warriors (1-6, 1-4) past the Jaguars (0-6, 0-5) in a Class AAA game at Benjamin L. Johnston Memorial Stadium.

Defensively, Boys' Latin was paced by Samuel Drummond and Terron Fuller. who intercepted passes.

Bok 45, FitzSimons 0 - In a Class AA game at Gratz, Shaquille Sammons rushed for 95 yards and scored three times to lead the Wildcats (5-2, 4-2) past the Rams (0-6, 0-6).

Sammons scored on a 1-yard bolt and a 53-yard kickoff return as Bok was racing to a 25-0 lead in the first quarter. He opened the second quarter with a 16-yard scoring run.

Dobbins 24, Gratz 8 - Aaron Walker scored on runs of 35 and 3 yards to pace the Mustangs (6-1, 5-0) to victory over the host Bulldogs (6-1, 4-1) in a Class AAA game.

Frankford 34, Lincoln 6 - Kelly Johnston (2 touchdowns) and Mark Price (1 touchdown) each rushed for over 100 yards to lead the Pioneers (3-4, 3-2) past the host Railsplitters (1-6, 0-5).

Frankford quarterback Mike McGroarty threw for more than 100 yards and a touchdown.

Inter-Ac League

Michael Hayes returned an interception 22 yards late in the fourth quarter to seal Chestnut Hill Academy's 24-10 win at Episcopal Academy.

The Blue Devils (2-4, 1-1) took a 17-10 lead earlier in the quarter on a short run, but Hayes' interception later in the quarter effectively ended the game.

Episcopal Academy fell to 2-3, 0-1.

Central League

Matt Craig answered a Haverford High field goal with three consecutive touchdowns and sparked Springfield (Delaware County) to a 54-17 win over the visiting Fords.

Craig scored on runs of 5 and 12 yards in the first quarter and added a 4-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to give the Cougars (5-2, 5-1) a 20-3 lead. He finished with 111 rushing yards against Haverford (3-4, 2-4).

Ryan Strain had a big game at quarterback, completing 16 of 20 passes for 240 yards and a pair of 22-yard scoring passes to Denzel Thompson.

Strath Haven 21, Garnet Valley 20 - Brett Collins scored on a 17-yard run and Alex Hisey kicked the extra point in the fourth quarter to lift the Panthers (6-1, 6-0) past the visiting Jaguars (5-2, 4-2).

James Griffin rushed for 149 yards and scored twice on runs of 66 and 78 yards for Strath Haven

Suburban One League

Ward Udinski's 11-yard run in the final quarter gave Central Bucks West a 13-12 win over Central Bucks East in a Continental Division game at War Memorial Field.

Udinski also scored on a 1-yard keeper in the second quarter for the Bucks (5-2, 2-2). Rashaad Williams got West into position to score by rushing for 157 yards on 28 carries.

Josh Bernard (80 yards rushing) and Justyn White (92 yards rushing) scored on runs of 24 and 1 yards, respectively, for the Patriots (3-4, 2-2).

Souderton 45, Central Bucks South 35 - Tyler Scholl and Tanner Allem each rushed for a pair of touchdowns as the Indians (5-2, 4-0) handled the visiting Titans (2-5, 0-4) in a Continental Division game.

Joe McNamara and Javon White chipped in with touchdowns, taking advantage of a South defense that has given up an average of 37 points per game this season.

Pennridge 35, Hatboro-Horsham 8 - Brandon Cope scored on runs of 27, 1 and 5 yards to lift the Rams (4-3, 1-2) past the visiting Hatters (2-5, 0-4) in a Continental Division game.

Jesse Knepp added scoring runs of 5 and 6 yards as Pennridge completed the rout.

Upper Moreland 37, Wissahickon 6 - Sean Haley scored three touchdowns to make the short ride from Ambler back to Willow Grove after the game enjoyable for the Golden Bears (6-1, 2-1).

Dan Cripps helped bury the Trojans (0-7, 03) with a pair of field goals and three extra points.

Cheltenham 25, Plymouth Whitemarsh 23 - The visiting Panthers (6-1, 2-1) stopped a two-point conversion attempt late in the fourth quarter to preserve the win. Ken Cropper tossed a pair of touchdown passes for the Panthers, who also got two touchdowns from Akil Reed, one on a fumble recovery in the end zone. The Colonials fell to 3-4, 2-2.

Upper Dublin 14, Norristown 10 - Jeff Buchanan caught the game-winning score from Andrew Derr 16 seconds before halftime at Roosevelt Field.

The Flying Cardinals (6-1, 4-0) shut out the Eagles (3-4, 2-2) in the second half.

Del-Val League

Mitch Helmandollar made the most of his 11 carries, scoring four touchdowns, as Interboro earned a 47-8 win at Chichester and extended the Eagles' losing streak to 20 games.

Helmandollar's longest touchdown was a 22-yard run in the third quarter. He finished with 80 yards.

The Bucs (3-4, 1-1) led, 28-0, at halftime.

Nonleague

Daquan Cooper caught a pair of touchdown passes and led Washington past Salesianum (Del.), 27-6, at Charlie Martin Memorial Stadium.

Cooper opened the scoring with a 16-yard scoring reception from Tony Smith in the first quarter. Smith threw two more scoring strikes, hitting Nate Smith with a 37-yard touchdown pass and connected with English Peay for a 30-yard touchdown, giving the Eagles (6-1) a 20-6 halftime lead over the Sallies (5-1). Peay closed out the scoring by hitting Cooper with a 30-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.

Smith completed 11 of 21 passes for 178 yards, Cooper had six catches for 86 yards and Hakeem Stillman carried the ball 14 times for 85 yards for Washington.

Imhotep Charter 38, Mariana Bracetti 0 - Maurice Palmer rushed for a pair of touchdowns and Devin Sanders caught two scoring passes from Jamal Johnson as the Panthers (6-2) tripped Bracetti (0-3) at Benjamin L. Johnston Memorial Stadium.

Palmer carried the ball 32 and 24 yards for his touchdowns while Sanders caught touchdown strikes of 25 and 2 yards to account for his scores.
