High school football games to watch this weekend

TED SILARY ON CITY LEAGUES

TED SILARY ON CITY LEAGUES

West Catholic vs. McDevitt, Catholic AA

Friday, 7 o'clock, at Cheltenham

It's hard to imagine West coach Brian Fluck won't get his 100th career victory with his stable of skills guys. Quarterback Martin "Nico" Henry and running back Gary Postell make McDevitt somewhat dangerous, however.

Judge vs. Roman Catholic, Catholic AAAA

Saturday, 7 o'clock, at Northeast

Frisky, physical Judge (5-0) has maintained a low profile. Connor Thompson has become a late-game good-luck charm out of a "wildcrusader" formation. Roman might have to make do without injured sophomore QB Michael Keir.

JOSEPH SANTOLIQUITO ON DELCO

Marple Newtown at Strath Haven

Friday, 7:30

Strath Haven is the hottest team in the area, beating a very good Conestoga team, 36-7, last week and winning four straight games. Marple Newtown is a dangerous and desperate team playing to keep its playoff chances alive. The Tigers can score, but need to stop Strath Haven's multithreat offense, led by senior fullback Thurman Fortune.

Interboro vs. Penn Wood at Kerr Field, Yeadon

Saturday, 2 o'clock

This is the premier game in Delaware County this weekend, pitting 12-time defending Del-Val League champion Interboro, riding a rare three-game losing streak against tough opponents, vs. a Penn Wood team that has not won a Del-Val title since 1994. Penn Wood will be led by a stubborn defense, featuring Penn State-bound defensive end Shawn Oakman and linebacker Kavonne Nottingham.

MICHAEL RADANO ON SOUTH JERSEY

Collingswood at West Deptford

Friday, 7 o'clock

Both teams enter this game undefeated overall at 3-0 and, more important, 2-0 in the Liberty Division. The Eagles are coming off a three-point win at Haddonfield in which they blew a 28-point lead. The Panthers need this win, as they head into the brutal middle portion of their schedule.

Cherokee at Williamstown

Friday, 7 o'clock

For several years Williamstown traveled the New Jersey landscape to get Group 4 opponents. Now in the West Jersey League, the Braves, ranked seventh in the Daily News South Jersey Top 10, got their wish, and No. 2 Cherokee comes to town in a great American Division matchup.

Egg Harbor Township at Hammonton

Saturday, noon

Hammonton enters the game 3-0 but the visiting Eagles will be the first real test of the season for the defending Group 3 champions. The Blue Devils are coming off the bye, so don't expect for any sort of letdown in this Cape-Atlantic clash.
