SE Pa. football: Delco Christian gets first grid triumph

Jake White intercepted a Jenkintown pass in the end zone with 30 seconds left in the game to give the Knights (1-3 overall, 1-3 league) a 38-35 win over the host Drakes in a Bicentennial League game.

The wild game featured two signature running performance by the respective tailbacks as Delco Christian's Caleb Favino, son of head coach Jim Favino, gained 300 yards on 26 carries and Jack Kinniry gained 272 yards for Jenkintown on the same number of carries.

The Drakes (1-2, 1-3) closed to within 38-35 on a 22-yard pass from Pat Stullmun to Ted Hudson with two minutes left and recovered an onsides' kick, driving to the DC 4-yard line before White's interception.

Catholic League

At Wissahickon, Martin Henry tossed a pair of touchdown passes to give Bishop McDevitt a 24-22 win over host Lansdale Catholic. Henry tossed a pair of touchdown passes and added a 67-yard touchdown run and finished with over 100 yards in rushing (119) and passing (110).

West Catholic 40, Archbishop Ryan 6 - Anthony Reid tossed a pair of touchdown passes for as the host Burrs (3-2) cruised past the Raiders.

Wright, playing rush linebacker on defense, had a pair of sacks totaling 10 yards and four additional tackles for the Lancers (3-2, 1-0).

Public League

At Simon Gratz, Aaron Walker's 9-yard run in the fourth quarter sealed a 15-6 Class AAA win for Dobbins over Roxborough.

The Mustangs (4-1, 3-0) went ahead, 9-6, on a fourth-quarter safety, and added Walker's touchdown run.

Dobbins went ahead, 7-0, in the first quarter on a 22-yard touchdown run by Terrence Stafford.

Pioneer Athletic

Host Perkiomen Valley (2-3, 2-1) scored the final nine points of the third quarter to pull away to a 22-9 win over Pope John Paul II (0-4, 0-5).

Spring-Ford 42, Upper Perkiomen 34 - Casey Pearlstein had 213 yards passing and 113 yards rushing for the Rams (4-1, 2-1). The Tribe fell to 2-3, 1-2.

Nonleague

John Loughery did a good quarterback impersonation of his first cousin, Matt Ryan, to lead Penn Charter to a 40-18 nonleague win at Peddie School (N.J.). Loughery, a senior, completed 10 of 13 passes for 175 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Quakers (1-3) to their first win.

Ryan is the former Penn Charter quarterback and current Atlanta Falcons' star.

Cheltenham 47, Chichester 8 - The host Panthers (4-1) scored 35 points in the first half to kick in the mercy rule and allow a running clock in the second half to shorten the game.

Chris Stephens made the most of his four carries, gaining 112 yards, and also caught a 45-yard touchdown pass from Basil Williams.

The Eagles could do little to stop Cheltenham's speedy and strong runners, as the Panthers amassed 413 total offensive yards, 362 on the ground.

Hill School 12, Chestnut Hill 9 (OT) - Lee Marvel, a post-grad from Newtown, scored on a 10-yard run on the final possession of overtime to give the visiting Blues (2-1) a dramatic win.

Chestnut Hill scored all of its points on three Christian Guinan field goals.

Cardinal O'Hara 35, Chester 0 - Senior quarterback Ryan Laughlin completed 15 of 25 passes for 169 yards and a touchdown to lead the host Lions (5-0) to the win.

The Lions led, 7-0, going into the third quarter but then Adam Dempsey scored the second of two touchdowns to give them a 14-0 lead and, on the next series, Shawn Driggins returned an interception 18 yards to make it 21-0.

Pennington (N.J.) 40, Lower Moreland 20 - In Bryn Athyn, the visiting Raiders (3-0) got a pair of first-quarter touchdowns from sophomore tailback Marcus Fulmore to take control. They led, 33-0, at the end of three quarters.

Germantown Academy 54, Emily Fisher 0 - The host Patriots (1-2) got three touchdowns from Ryan Dolan, one on a kickoff return.

Monsignor Bonner 28, Interboro 19 - Ismir Gibson scored on a pair of touchdown runs and Sean Quarterman added a pair of TD tosses for the Friars (3-2).
