Unionville stuns Pennsbury, 12-7
Unionville got most of its big play plays on defense in stunning host Pennsbury, 12-7, in a District 1 Class AAAA first-round game Friday night.
The 15th-seeded Indians (8-3) used a 32-yard pass from Connor Gades to Connor O'Malley to cut the lead to 7-6 in the first quarter. The only other score of the game came on a 9-yard run by Massom Poppham in the third.
Things were looking good for the second-seeded Falcons (9-2) early in the first quarter when Brandon Pepper went on a 98-yard scoring run. But Unionville's defense tightened up after that.
Poppham tracked down Pepper after a 60-yard run in the fourth quarter to stop one potential touchdown. Later in the same drive, Unionville stopped the Falcons on four straight running plays, the final one a tackle by linebacker Ronnie Birmingham at his own 6 with 1 minute, 40 seconds left.
Unionville advances to a second-round date against Ridley.
