Mac McCann took care of business all by himself for Unionville in the opening round of the PIAA Class AAA state boys' soccer tournament Tuesday.

McCann sent his own rebound into the net two minutes into a second overtime period and lifted the District 1 champion Indians past District 12 runner-up Washington, 1-0, at West Chester East.

McCann took a shot from 14 yards out, but it hit the crossbar. McCann gathered in the rebound and found the back of the net for the game-winner.

Corey White stopped three shots to earn the shutout for Unionville (21-2) while Sidney Nichol turned aside eight shots for the Eagles (11-5-1).

The Indians will play District 3 runner-up Redland in a quarterfinal game Saturday.

In another first-round game, Central Bucks East got second-half goals from Ryan Apt and Evan Franco as it stunned District 11 champion Stroudsburg, 2-0, at Pleasant Valley.

The Patriots, who came into the tournament as the No. 3 seed from District 1, got a pair of saves from goalie Shane Donovan who earned his 15th shutout of the season. Apt and Franco scored within eight minutes of each other.

East (18-6) will meet District 12 champion Father Judge in a quarterfinal game Saturday.

PIAA State Class AA. Greg Patrick scored with 23 seconds left in regulation to hand District 1 champion Octorara a 3-2 win over District 12 champion Archbishop Wood at Conestoga.

Patrick headed in a ball sent through by Nate Aquandro. Josh Topper and Justin Weathers added goals, and Josh Wolff stopped 10 shots for the Braves (16-4) who will meet District 3 runner-up Tulpehocken in a quarterfinal game on Saturday.

The Vikings (18-3) got goals from Tom Baker and James Fannon.

PIAA State Class A. The last soccer game played by Kennedy-Kenrick did not go according to the Wolverines' script. District 1 champion Christopher Dock had other plans.

The three-time state champions got two goals from Brandon Reichart and dropped Kennedy-Kenrick, 5-0, in an opening-round game at Northeast High.

Adam Moyer and Ryan Seiz added a goal and an assist and Brett Firely chipped in with a goal. David Brelsford did not need to face a shot to post the shutout in goal for the Pioneers (17-3-1) who will play District 4 runner-up Benton in a quarterfinal Saturday. Nick Gremminger stopped 20 shots for the Wolverines (9-8-2).

Kennedy-Kenrick is closing at the end of the school year, and so is St. Pius X. They will merge to form Pope John Paul II High School in Royersford.

Inter-Ac. Zachery Wolfe scored midway through the second half to hand Episcopal Academy a 1-0 win over visiting Chestnut Hill Academy.

Ben Maurey scored the game-winning goal with 10 minutes left in the game to give Malvern Prep a 2-1 win over visiting Penn Charter. Ryan Bonner also scored for the Friars.

Christopher Wysocki scored the game-winning goal midway through the second half and helped Germantown Academy beat visiting Haverford School, 3-2.

St. Girls roundupPius X's soccer team is peaking just at the right time.
