St. Joe Prep’s Compton out for the football season

Garrett Compton's senior football season officially ended Monday, when, according to St. Joseph's Prep coach Gil Brooks, the rugged tailback learned he had suffered a torn left anterior cruciate ligament and sprained medial collateral ligament in Saturday night's Catholic League Division AAAA win over La Salle.

Late in the third quarter, after he was stopped behind the line of scrimmage for a 1-yard loss, Compton immediately reached for his knee. He then had to be carried off Plymouth Whitemarsh's field by teammates.

In four games, the 5-foot-9, 195-pound Compton, the squad's leading rusher, totaled more than 300 yards and five touchdowns. He netted 100-plus yards in wins over McKeesport and Saint Peter's Prep (N.J.).
