Bartram's Garland picks Virginia Tech
Bartram's Tyrone Garland, the only junior on the Daily News' first-team All-City squad last year, yesterday announced that he would attend Virginia Tech.
Garland, a 6-1 guard who averaged 28.9 points a game while leading the Public League and city in scoring last season, was considering several schools, including La Salle.
Virginia Tech, coached by Seth Greenberg, is in need of a scoring threat like Garland, even though it will have to wait a year to get him.
The Hokies, who play in the Atlantic Coast Conference, were 19-15 overall last season and failed to gain a bid into the NCAA Tournament. Instead, they played in the NIT, where they lost to Baylor in the second round. *
