Bok to make it 36 straight

Week 6 is loaded with key division showdowns. One of them is today's Public League Class AA battle between Edward Bok Tech and Franklin at Chalmers and 29th Streets.

On the line for Tom DeFelice's Bok squad is a 35-game league winning streak that began in the 2002 league opener. After an 8-6 loss to Bartram, Franklin has won three successive games by a combined score of 92-20.

Elsewhere tonight, Owen J. Roberts and Pottsgrove, coleaders in the Pioneer Athletic Conference, square off in Pottstown, and Abington and Council Rock South, title contenders in the Suburban One League's National Conference, clash in Newtown.

Last week: 10-3.

Overall: 42-18.

Bok (5-0, 2-0) at Franklin (3-1, 2-0), today at 3. The Wildcats, led by running back Ray Tucker, have outscored foes by 130-32. The Electrons feature running back Marquis White and receiver Jamel "Redz" Haggins. The streak continues.

Pick: Bok, 26-12.

Owen J. Roberts (4-1, 3-0) at Pottsgrove (4-1, 3-0), tonight, 7. Two top-notch sophomore ballcarriers, OJR running back Ryan Brumfield (1,011 rushing yards, nine touchdowns) and Pottsgrove quarterback Terrell Chestnut (718, eight), are featured. The edge goes to the Falcons.

Pick: Pottsgrove, 30-24.

Abington (4-1, 1-1) vs. Council Rock South (4-1, 1-1) at C.R. North, tonight, 7. The Ghosts and Golden Hawks are trying to keep pace with Neshaminy and Pennsbury, the front-runners in the Suburban One League's National Conference. Our nod goes to the visitors.

Pick: Abington, 21-14.

No. 4 La Salle (4-1, 2-0) vs. Father Judge (2-3, 1-1) at Northeast, tonight, 7. Can the Crusaders slow down the pass-happy Explorers? Can La Salle keep quarterback Tony Smith from hitting receivers Tom Ryan and Adam Nowak? Expect a close one.

Pick: La Salle, 27-24.

George Washington (3-1, 1-0) at Northeast (2-3, 1-1), tomorrow night, 7. In this Red Division matchup in the Public League, the Vikings must corral speedy backs Omar Hunter and Kesson Christopher. Northeast will likely be without quarterback Malik Stokes (knee).

Pick: Washington, 17-7.

Other games to watch

Lansdale Catholic (2-3, 0-1) vs. Conwell-Egan (3-2, 1-0) at Harry S Truman, tonight, 7. Pick: LC, 20-17.

Upper Moreland (4-1, 1-1) at Upper Merion (4-1, 2-0), tonight, 7. Pick: Upper Merion, 28-7.
