Freshman Ashley Sullivan shot 6-for-6 from the field for a game-high 15 points Saturday as the Great Valley girls’ basketball team downed Oxford, 37-23, in the District 1 Class 6A first round. Tessa Liberatosciolli chipped in nine points for the Patriots. Great Valley will play at Central Bucks South on Wednesday.
In other first round action, Nicole Kaiser scored 14 points as Upper Dublin rolled past Pennsbury, 54-24. Dayna Balasa contributed with 12 points for the Cardinals. Upper Dublin will travel to Council Rock South on Wednesday.
Erin Doherty, Arden Guilfoil, and Erin Kelly led a balanced attack with eight points apiece to lead Haverford High past Methacton, 47-45.. The Fords will play top-seeded Souderton on Wednesday.
All of Rachel Balzer’s 18 points came from beyond the arc as Germantown Academy knocked off Penn Charter, 60-44, in the PAISAA quarterfinals. Elle Stauffer added 17 points while Catherine Polisano had seven assists for the Patriots. No. 1 seed Germantown Academy will play Shipley Friday at Neumann University.
In other quarterfinal action, Maggie Pina scored 12 of her 21 points in the fourth quarter to lift Notre Dame over Episcopal Academy, 51-44. Mandy McGurk chipped in with 15 points for the Irish. Notre Dame will play in Friday’s semifinal against two-seeded Abington Friends at Neumann University.
Zaniyyah Ross-Barnes recorded a game-high 17 points and nine rebounds as Abington Friends defeated Springside Chestnut Hill, 48-31. Paige Mott stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, nine rebounds, five blocks, and four assists for the Kangaroos. Abington Friends will take on Notre Dame Friday at Neumann University.
Natalie Kolb and Amelia Mulvaney scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, as Jenkintown took down Christian Academy, 45-20, to win the Bicentennial League for the first time in school history.
Chandler Brooks scored a game-high 23 points as Perkiomen School advances to the PAISAA semifinals for the first time in school history with a 78-63 triumph over Phelps. KJ Rhodes chipped in with five threes and had 22 points for the Panthers. Perkiomen School will play in Friday against Haverford School at Neumann University.
Kyle Thompson scored his 1,000th point Friday night in St.Joseph Prep’s upset win over No. 2 seed Nuemann-Goretti in the Catholic League quarterfinals. Thompson delivered with 14 of his 16 points in the second half. The Hawks will play Roman Catholic Wednesday night at 8:15 at the Palestra.
