Monday's South Jersey roundup: Paul Rodio gets 900th career win with St. Augustine

The St. Augustine boys' basketball team defeated Egg Harbor Township on Monday, 48-37, on the road to give head coach Paul Rodio his 900th career win. Rodio is in his 41st season as a coach at St. Augustine Prep.

He is the third coach in New Jersey to reach 900 wins and joined Bob Hurley who coached at St. Anthony (1,185) and Jerry Malloy (900), who coached at St. Mary's, St. Patrick's and St. Michael's.

Malin Jasinski scored 19 points, including five shots from three-point range to lead Seneca to a comeback win against Sterling. The visiting Golden Eagles went on a 14-0 run to start the third quarter and erased a nine-point deficit.

Eastern got a 26-point performance from Jesse Barbera as the Vikings topped host Washington Township, 75-60. Colin Meintel posted 24 points in the loss.

Ky'Shon Weldon scored 18 points and Dorian DePina and Mahir Yilmaz added 17 points apiece as Clayton edged Vineland Prep, 96-77, at home.

Darnell St. Clair scored 21 points to lead visiting Rancocas Valley past Medford Tech, 80-56, in Burlington County League action.

Girls’ Basketball

Hannah Sheffield tallied 24 points and Faith Rosa chipped in 20 more as host GCIT held off Wildwood, 54-45, in Tri-County Conference action. Maddie McCracken poured in 34 points in the loss for Wildwood.

Sara Peretti notched 18 points as Hammonton topped visiting Egg Harbor Township, 51-36.

Fiona Flynn tallied 23 points as Cinnaminson defeated Pennsauken, 52-29, on the road. Shayla Sweeney had 24 points for the home squad in the loss.
