Goalie Kincaid helps lead unbeaten Eastern field hockey team

There is a certain standard players are held to when they join the Eastern field hockey program, and senior goalie Cassie Kincaid has most certainly shown that.

Kincaid has started at goalie since her freshman year for coach Danyle Heilig, and she has not stopped improving. Now that she is a senior and one of the captains, it is her job to be a leader on and off the field.

"We are a younger team," Kincaid said. "We kind of set the tone early with [the younger players] with how things are done at Eastern. Also, getting them on board with how we work is what is going to help us be successful the rest of the season."

Kincaid has played a crucial role for the Vikings, who have won 84 straight games and are unbeaten in 141 straight, and Heilig realizes how lucky she is to have a player like Kincaid on the field.

"I have always said and thought that Cassie is one of the best goalies to come through my program, if not the best," Heilig said. "She is very directional, she owns her cage, and she owns the house in front of it. Her actions speak so loud."

Kincaid will continue to play field hockey at the collegiate level. She committed to Providence College in the spring.

"It was a Catholic school, and that really caught my eye," Kincaid said. "They have great athletics there and academics, so I knew it was the perfect fit for me when I got there."

Kincaid is excited about attending and playing field hockey at Providence, but she is focused now on helping Eastern continue to win.

"We have to make sure everyone is on the same page," Kincaid said. "I think if we all click, we will be great this season."
