Highland boys advance in Group 3 playoffs

Leading by only four after three quarters, Highland exploded for 26 points in the final period Monday and dispatched visiting Toms River South, 72-57, in a South Jersey Group 3 boys' basketball matchup. Elsewhere in South Jersey Group 3 first-round action:

Tommy Egan racked up a game-high 24 points to lead host Seneca past Absegami, 71-52. Jack Brockett added 16 points for the Golden Eagles, with seven coming from the foul line.

Luciano Lubrano bagged a game-high 18 points as Ocean City defeated visiting Pinelands, 71-45. Lubrano scored the majority of his points late, with 11 in the second half.

Central Jersey Group 1 First Round. Behind 12 scorers, Florence routed visiting Manville, 75-24. Jabril Enmonds (14 points) and LaDarius McNeil (10) were the only players to reach double-digit scoring for either team. The Flashes held the Mustangs to five points or fewer in all but one quarter.

Schalick easily dispatched visiting Maple Shade, 80-55, behind Troy Johnson's dominant performance, which included a double-double - 32 points and 20 rebounds. Tyler Lunsford and Taylor Clarke each put up 18 points for the Cougars. Lunsford also added seven assists, four rebounds, and five steals. Superior Ryan collected 10 points and seven assists.

Girls' Basketball

Kiyanna Thomas and Julia Dolan racked up 14 points apiece to lead Absegami past host Cumberland in a South Jersey Group 3 first-round matchup. Thomas also added seven rebounds and four blocks for the Braves. Bashti Hannah dropped a game-high 20 points in the Colts' loss.

In other South Jersey Group 3 first-round action:

Wykira Johnson drained 30 points - more than doubling the rest of her team combined - as host Delsea defeated Toms River South, 59-54.

Olivia Briggs and Grace Sacco combined for 31 points, carrying Ocean City over visiting Central Regional, 48-36. Sacco had one three-pointer, four assists, two rebounds, and two steals for the night.

Amiaya Melvins led all scoring with 22 points in Winslow Township's 45-25 win over visiting Deptford. Jaida Davis and Mikayla Cohen combined for 14 Eagles points.

Kaitlin Lister and Kamryn Lister recorded 17 points apiece to lead host Toms River East past Woodrow Wilson, 53-36.
