Jelani McCargo found his stride after the first week of the season.

So did the Woodrow Wilson football team.

McCargo, a junior running back, has scored a touchdown in six straight games as Woodrow Wilson has gone 5-1 and moved to the brink of a berth in the South Jersey Group 3 tournament.

Woodrow Wilson (5-2), which has a bye next weekend, unofficially would clinch their first tournament berth since 2011 with a victory at Willingboro (2-5) on Friday night.

"He's really come on," Woodrow Wilson coach Preston Brown said of McCargo. "He's been running hard."

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound McCargo started Woodrow Wilson on a four-game winning streak by rushing for 107 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-18 win over Palmyra on Oct. 5.

McCargo, who transferred from Timber Creek before this season, also scored touchdowns in consecutive victories over Highland, Schalick and Cumberland.

McCargo has been especially effective late in games, A bruising inside runner, McCargo has helped the Tigers close out victories with ball control in the fourth quarter.

"He finishes games for us," Brown said.
