Track & field: Rancocas Valley boys, Lenape girls win first state titles
The Rancocas Valley boys' and Lenape girls' track and field teams won their first outdoor team titles in school history in the Group 4 state championships at Egg Harbor Township.
The Rancocas Valley boys' and Lenape girls' track and field teams won their first outdoor team titles in school history in the Group 4 state championships at Egg Harbor Township.
They were buoyed by several strong performances.
In the boys' 4x100 relay, the Red Devils' JeSean Foster, Sterling Pierce, Dyson Scott, and Shaun Ellis-Bradley won in 42.20 seconds. Pierce also won the 200 in a time of 21.7.
In the girls' 4x400, the Indians' Jasmine Staten, Carly Pettipaw, Shannon Storms, and Marissa Topolski won in 3:53.96.
In the boys' 4x400, Egg Harbor Township's Alex Dessoye, Robert Dessoye, Amir Brock, and Alvin Abraham finished first in a Group 4 record time of 3:21.03.
Group 1 State Championships
Haddon Township's Luke Petela picked up his third win of the weekend, taking the 3,200 (9:20.19).
Non-Public B State Championships
St. Joseph's Rocco Ordille, Caleb Williams, Davore Mewborn, and A'Laam Horne won the 4x100 with a time of 43.80. Williams also claimed the 200 (21.95).
Group 2 State Championships
Briana Gess of Haddonfield won the 3,200 (11:07.92) and 800 (2:14.28) at South Plainfield.
Sterling's Sean Macpherson took first in the 3,200, with a mark of 9:27.34.
Group 3 State Championships
Pennsauken's Josh Howard, Marquan Jones, Ryan Wemegah and Martin Booker Jr. won the 4x100 in a school-record time of 42.40.
Delsea's Cecelia Gerstenbacher won the 200 meters, finishing in 25.16.
Winslow Township's Flora Ahirakwe, Iyianna Williams, Jordan Austin, and Brittany Preston won the 4x400 in a time of 3:54.06.
Non-Public A State Championships
Paul VI's Steele Stokley won the girls' high jump with a leap of 5-04.
