S.J. boys: Cherokee nips Washington Township in playoff baseball

Shane Albertson hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning that brought home Mike Druce for the go-ahead run in No. 13 Cherokee's 2-1 win at No. 12 Washington Township in a South Jersey Group 4 quarterfinal baseball game Friday.

Druce came in as a courtesy runner after Mike Borucki reached second on an error. Anthony Martinelli sacrificed Druce to third, positioning the junior for the decisive run.

Quinn Taylor earned the win, pitching four innings of one-run ball and striking out two.

Eastern 6, Clearview 0 - It took only 73 pitches for senior Alex Schwartz and the top-seeded Vikings to put away ninth-seeded Clearview at home. The right-hander went the distance in a two-hitter. Matt Woods slugged a pair of doubles, drove in two runs, and scored twice. Corey Kreston was 4 for 4 with an RBI. Ryan Keen was 2 for 3.

Williamstown 7, Cherry Hill West 4 - Tyler Apt allowed two earned runs over five innings and went 1 for 3 with an RBI to lead the third-seeded Warriors past No. 6 Cherry Hill West at home. Tommy Gibson had a double and two RBIs. Ross Micka was 2 for 4 and drove in a run.

S.J. Group 2 Baseball Quarterfinals

Drew Dark stuck out three in top-seeded Haddonfield's 2-0 shutout of No. 8 Audubon at home. Thomas Goose was 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Glassboro 4, Barnegat 0 - Ken Dobbins went the distance in the fourth-seeded Bulldogs' shutout of fifth-seeded visitor Barnegat. Dominic D'Alessandro belted a home run.

Deptford 13, Atlantic County Tech 4 - Matt Jefferson was 3 for 3 with two RBIs and a pair of runs in No. 2 Deptford's win over the seventh-seeded Red Hawks at home.

S.J. Group 1 Baseball Quarterfinals

Chris Mormile earned the win in relief and scored twice to aid fifth-seeded Wildwood in a 5-3 win over No. 13 Penns Grove at home. Brendan Bean struck out 10 over six innings. Bean also drove in four runs.

Gateway 7, Riverside 3 - Kevin Teschko tossed six innings and stuck out eight to lead No. 8 Gateway in an upset at top-seeded Riverside. Ryan Teschko was 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs and two runs. Dan Ream hit a three-run triple and also scored.

C.J. Group 3 Baseball Quarterfinals

Adam Rapp's two-run double in the first was all top-seeded Northern Burlington needed in a 2-1 win over No. 8 Ocean Township at home.

S.J. Non-Public A Baseball First Round

In nine starts this season, St. Augustine junior Mike Vasturia has thrown a complete game, his most recent being in the fifth-seeded Hermits' 6-1 win over No. 12 Donovan Catholic. The right-hander struck out four and walked one. Cody Sadreameli went 3 for 4 with three RBIs.

Gloucester Catholic 5, Paul VI 0 - John Murphy struck out nine over five innings to pace the second-seeded host Rams in a win over No. 15 Paul VI. Keanu Kelii went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and a run.

S.J Non-Public B Baseball First Round

Chris Lefferts had two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs to power tenth-seeded Holy Spirit at No. 7 St. Joseph, 8-1. Anthony Boselli went 3 for 4 and scored twice. Bobby Spicer struck out 11 over six innings, allowing two hits.
