Never mind.

Paul Wiedeman , the highly successful boys' basketball coach at Haddonfield High School, has decided that the grass isn't always greener, after all.

Wiedeman accepted a teaching and coaching position at Cherokee High School on May 13. The next day, the Haddonfield Board of Education accepted his resignation, effective June 30.

Now, Wiedeman wants to stay at Haddonfield. He has sent a request to the Haddonfield Board of Education to rescind his resignation at the May 28 meeting, according to Haddonfield athletic director Lefty Banos.

"It's a very sensitive situation," Banos said.

Banos said he supports Wiedeman's intention to remain as a health/physical education teacher and coach at Haddonfield.

Wiedeman and Cherokee athletic director Scott Agnew declined to comment.

Wiedeman's decision puts Cherokee back in the market for a coach to replace Matt Shultz, who resigned after last season.

Wiedeman said Haddonfield was "in my DNA" when he spoke about accepting the Cherokee position.

He said it was "one of the hardest decisions I've ever made in my life."

Wiedeman has a 373-90 record in 16 seasons at Haddonfield. His teams have won three state titles and five South Jersey titles.

Wiedeman also was a standout player at Haddonfield, winning a state title with his father Dave as coach in 1989.
